Hi there all!
I'm in the process of trying to "spiff" up my blog with fun things and, being totally new at this, I keep getting messages like "tag not allowed" or "target not allowed"....:shrug

More specifically I wanted to add my weatherpixie that I have seen on one of your blogs. Wonder who I am having a hard time as I followed the directions saying to cut and paste the html code where I want the pixie to appear.

Anyone have advice for me?:thumbsup
Edited to say: I got my weather pixie to show up in a daily post but I'd like to get her on a side bar or something to make her a more permanent fixture in the blog, otherwise she'll just go off into the archives as time goes on....:huh

I use blogger also, so this is my advice (not necessarily saying it's the best advice, but it's how I put stuff in my sidebar :) ) -

Go to where you edit your template - scroll down in the html code until you get to -

<h2 class="sidebar-title">Previous Posts</h2> Let's say you want to put your weather pixie above this in your sidebar.

You would write above this -

<h2 class="sidebar-title">Fun Stuff(your title would go here</h2>
<ul>
(paste in the weatherpixie code here)
</ul>

Hope this helps!

:blush Your welcome, Bec!

Some other things you could put on your blog would be: buttons, links to your favorite sites or blogs, all kinds of stuff! You would go about doing it the same way as you did for the weatherpixie.

As you come across buttons that you like, save them on your computer and then upload them to a photo hosting site like pnavy.com (http://www.pnavy.com) or photobucket (http://www.photobucket.com). I use photobucket, which is pretty easy to use. Then, you would place it in your sidebar pretty much the same way, choose a title or put them under your "Fun Stuff" title.

Watch out though, playing around with the look of your blog is pretty addicting. :)

I do have images saved to photobucket but what are "buttons"?:shrug This is a new term to me.

Buttons, I guess we call them buttons because you click them <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/shrug.gif" /> :

:rofl I loke the "I'm a hooker" ones!! So, how does one aquire a button? I saw that one person had buttons that were linked to others blogs. How would I go about doing that? Sorry for all the questions, so new at this.....:shrug

It's not a problem, Bec, don't worry. Donna did a great tutorial in the FAQ and Tips section, click <a href="http://p084.ezboard.com/fcrochetvillefrm47.showMessage?topicID=2.topic" target="_new">here</a> and see if this helps. <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/thumbsup.gif" />

Most folks who have blogs have buttons to share that advertise their sites. Others have made buttons that people can use freely and usually have a little section on their blog for those too. Some, such as the "I'm a hooker too" button have been around for ages and there may not be many people to know where they originated from. You should always link back to a site if you can, though if the button is for decoration you don't have to do so. Try not to alter the button unless the site that hosts your blog plays havoc with the HTML, such as adding a border when one isn't on the orginal, resizing the image, etc., because it may just be someone's pride and joy that they slaved over for a day or two. <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/sweat.gif" /> Most of all, have fun and decorate at will. If you have the time, search through this forum as a lot of us have posted buttons that we hoped other people would like to use. <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/bounce012.gif" />

Lovely! Thanks for that! So where would I go to create my own button? I looked on Google but many of them were quite plain....:huh

i actually just made it in ms word, converted it to a jpeg in iPhoto. it was really fairly easy. well, a little difficult, because i had to do a lot of cropping - i took the butterfly and flowers off the picture i use on the left... can you tell? it's so tiny-<img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/frown.gif" />
