HELLLP!!!

I want to make an afghan for a 5-year-old daughter of a co-worker who has a tough 6-8 months coming up. I want to use this edging http://crochet.about.com/library/weekly/aa091998.htm?once=true&rnk=r&terms=crochet+edgings and need suggestions on which afghan pattern to use. I made the ABC (Caron Simply Soft?) blanket for her younger brother when he was born & apparently she sleeps with it every night, I am using pastel pink, green & purple sport-weight yarn but other than that I'm stumped. I thought maybe a plain blanket made with dc (edging needs multple of 6st + 4) and then the eging, but that's the best I could come up with.

I didn't know about making the round-ripple (my favorite by the way) and ending when each edge of the ripple had 6st +4 stitches, but am unsure about the corners. Does anyone have a suggestion? I have lots of sport-wieght white yarn, so I could do something stripey (including the round ripple). I just finished my latest project this morning and want to start this blanket this afternoon - no pressure tho!!

Thanks for any input!
Fran

I think that edging would look great on the round ripple, you would just have to "ease it in" so to speak, you may have to add a few extra stitches at the corners, however, if you need to make it quick, you could always buy a baby fleece blanket and just jump right in the edging, just do dc or hdc around the blanket in the sewn thread that is already on the blanket, so you have a good foundation to start from. Also you could check out the Warm Up America site, they have patterns there for their rectangles, one is called the flying V, it is a chain of your desired length, then 2dc, ch2, 1sc in the same space, skip 2 and repeat across, at the end turn and do the 2dc, ch2, 1sc in the ch2 sp of the previous row. It is very beautiful, it kinda makes a staggered, texture, I haven't seen any other stitch I like more, (and I like them all!) it is very pretty. Anywho, hope this helps some! ;)

http://www.warmupamerica.org/patterns.html here's a link for Warm Up America, scroll down for the pattern, and here's a photo of the stitch, I used contrasting colors just to show the stitches, but I've done this in a sage green, no other color added, and it is very elegant looking. Most people can't figure which way the stitches go.

Thanks Heart for your suggestions. I did check out the webiste and will print the "patterns" as soon as I get the driver d/l for my printer (only 1/2 hour left to go!!). I'm not in a specific hurry for it, but it's next on my list to do (after that a blanket for a baby boy ...any Kung-Fu inspired ideas lol). I was winding yarn from a hank into a ball last week & realized that I had the perfect yarn for the 5-year-old .... and then I remembered the edging - she will need all angels she can get, her mom is really scared for her (been there & never want to do it again), I just needed a blanket stitch.

I think the flying v's might be a little busy, because I want the edging to stand out a little bit, BUT I am going to try it with a slightly bigger hook than because I don't want it to be a thick blanket, I really like the look of the stitch, if it works out ok I can always edge the blanket in white.

Thanks again heart, I will start it right now!
