:hook Good Morning Everyone!!
I am just seeking the most basic of things....a easy simple hat pattern link. I have tried many but they don't seem to fit my big ole head! I have seen many (believe me MANY) patterns but nothing strikes me. I like doing half-double stitch, so this would also be in the hat. Any help?? When I google this.....about a billion come up but I thought if you had any favorites??

Have you tried www.headhuggers.org (http://www.headhuggers.org)? They have lots of simple hats that can be adapted for any size head, children and adults. There's a book called Hooked Hats that has some neat stuff in it.

What I do is make a rectangle, do a chain for the length that you want counting a folded up brim if you want one. then Hdc into the back loops only - this will give it a ribbed look. Hold it up to your head after several rows to see if it will fit around - when it fits around whip stitch it together into a tube, weave yarn in and out around one end of tube and pull tight. There you have a hat that fits! if this is too plan you could try a different stitch - i find that this ribbed stitch is nice and stretchy, I don't know how well other stitches will stretch.

I've done hats like Angie described. Sewing up the seam is always a pain though! But that's just me.
You could make a chain long enough to fit around your head, join in a circle, being VERY careful not to twist the chain. Then just do HDC around until it's a tube about 8 inches tall. Then decrease for the top. I usually make hats from the top down, but it's a little harder to tell how big around it will be.

Here is a pattern that I wrote. It's a basic beanie pattern using the hdc(half double crochet). If you have any problems with it you can PM me.
Hope it works for you!!

:cheer Use your hat pattern you have already and just put 1 more stitch into the first round. Remember the count will be different but if you do the same number of increase rows, you will get a bigger hat.
EG If your first round had 12 sts, do 13. Round 2 will have (24) 26, round 3 will have (36) 39, round 4 will have (48) 52, round 5 will have (60) 65, round 6 will have (72) 78. etc, etc...
Imagine how much bigger the extra stitches will make it and add 2 at the start if necessary. That will add an extra 12 stitches by round 6.
Hope this helps.
Have fun.

www.yarncat.com (http://www.yarncat.com) Catharine has great patterns.
Double crochet hats stretch and are easy to fit people. Those are the ones I use for charity and for sending to the troops.

The ribbed, cuffed hat described in the first response has always worked the best for me, because I too have a big head -- in the literal sense.
