Hey all -
My SIL wants a baby blanket that is super soft, washable, and will last. I am currently using Bernat baby coordinates to make a carseat blanket for my cousin who is due in 4 months. I am using 2 stands together (pink and sweet pink) and it seems like it will last through a bunhc of washings.

My question - is there something better??? this is the first time doing something with "baby yarn" and want to make sure it will work.

Anyone used this yarn and hated it or had something fall apart after a few washings. PLEASE let me know. Thanks

I used this on several of my baby blankies for my son and nephew and they worked up nice, but after a couple washes just dont look quite as nice as I'd prefer
:) I don't care for the Baby Bernat Coordinates but I DO love Bernat Baby (that is all the label says I believe it's Bernat Baby Soft though) HEre is a link to those...

I made 3 blankies with that yarn and it works up nicely, it doesn't split and seems to hold up over lots of washing.
Another one that I like is the Caron simply soft...not a 'baby' yarn but some of the colors are pastels, and it works up and holds up nicely :)
Good luck!

I've made many things with the Bernat Baby Coordinates as I like that rayon thread running through the yarn and adding interest. I've never had a problem in working with it and the finished items always look really nice. I don't, however, actually know how it washes and wears since I've always given the items as gifts. I'm disappointed to hear from Marlena that the items she's made from it haven't washed up very well. That is a bummer, and I would think it would be something to seriously consider in choosing your yarn. Baby items are usually washed a lot!

I've used Bernat for very lightweight blankets (for my cousin who lives in Hawaii!) but I usually use Lion Homespun "regular" not "baby." I simply DC on an "N" hook, the result is a workhorse that is very pretty but not too delicate to use daily.

It machine washes well and is soft, warm, AND easy to find in a wide array of colors. Pricewise it is not the cheapest but being very common it is often on sale. I have seen a blanket of mine that has been in active use 6 months or so, I was pleased at how well it looked, a little fuzzing but not too bad.

Tudor is my favorite color, it mixes blues, pinks, purples and greens on a cream colored base.

I spend most of my time making baby items and I have found that the best yarn for baby (keeping in mind how often baby items need to be washed) is the Caron Simply Soft. It isn't really a baby yarn but has the feel of a baby yarn.... It is soft, silky, and still looks new after several washes.

The Bernat Coordinates yarn is very pretty when finished and I still use this for blankets that are more for special occasions like Christening... but for everyday use and several washes.... it just doesnt hold up well enough in my opinion.

I have made many, many baby things. I don't care for Caron Simply Soft because in my experience it sheds and makes me itch and tickles my nose while I am working it, and the strands don't hold close together and my hook goes through, just slowing me down. I love Bernat Baby Coordinates for blankets because it works up really soft and fluffy. For durability, I chose Lily Sugar Babies. It's definately far from the any soft yarn out there, but it's 100% baby cotton and has lasted my two very rambunctious twins from birth through age 3 (so far) with no troubles, and it does soften up with each washing. I am starting a blanket for my cousin's baby with Lion Brand Pound of Love. It's just enough yarn to make one blanket, but it will need to be washed before I give it to remove whatever is in that yarn that makes it feel a little stiff. That does make a nice blankie though...and cheap...

i used Bernat Baby Coordinates - Sports Weight with my daughter's blankie :) it was pink and yellow and soooo cute... it has really held up too! many washings over the years... it's machine washable and dryable :)

i am currently using Lion Brand Jiffy Quick and Easy Mohair Look yarn on my son's - it says it is machine washable and dryable - but i am not sure what the long-term will be... it is for his stroller, as it is quite cold here - it's pretty thick, and i am really liking working with it :)
i am using colour 320 - newport (white and green mix)

Has anyone used Bernat CottonTots for a baby blanket? I'm considering it, but wondering if it's too heavy, too thick... Anyone?
