So this is what I was fooling around with over the weekend. Don't look to terribly close, cos I'm sure you will see some mistakes! I just used Red Heart yarn.

I want to make one but the pattern I think I want to use is in storage and I can't get to it.

Very nice - how big a hook can you get in those loops? I would like a case for my bigger hooks.

I never seem to keep my hooks in a case. I like how bright yours is. It would be easy to spot! Which is good because if you are like me you're always scratching your head wondering where you put something.

I love the purple holders that wrap around. I think I may try that technique on the next one I make.

I love this idea! How are your hooks remaining so neatly inside, are the hooks just in between the stitches, or did you crochet something to hold them down? I would love this pattern, it would be a great gift idea for swaps and fellow crocheters.
