I did it! I finally made the shawl for me lol.
My Shawl (http://marviescrochetcorner.blogspot.com/2004/11/my-very-own-seraphinas-shawl.html)
It's made out of yarns I recycled from a sweater I picked up at the thrift shop this weekend. I got the sweater for $1.00!!!
The sweater was hand made, knitted I am pretty sure. There were all sorts of gorgeous yarns in it. Took me all of Saturday to deconstruct it and wind it all up. I spent all of Sunday and part of yesterday making the shawl. I'm in love with this pattern. I just love the way the shawl fits, and it hangs wonderfully on the back of my chair too lol. I'll try to post a close up so you can see the yarns better...

Oh WOW Marvie! That is a gorgeous shawl, I love the yarn. I was going to ask what it was but it shall remain a mystery. What a great find for $1, and it is absolutely beautiful!! :)h

Julie,
There are about 10 different yarns in it. Everything from Homespun to mohair type stuff, to chenille, some nubby ones, thick n thin ones, metallic stuff, some of the rows were three or four threads held together.... everything EXCEPT plain ww yarn lol.
My guess is the original sweater was made up of scraps. It was perfect for this shawl though as the sweater was done in stripes and it was all one piece so there was just enough to make the shawl in stripes too. Lots n lots of ends to weave, but I just stopped every third or fourth row and did that as I went.
Oh and I tried to get a close up but it kept coming out blurry... maybe hubby can figure it out later. I am jsut not a photographer lol.

Marvie, I think it was totally worth the effort. That is just what I'd love too have in a shawl, but probably (most likely) would never do myself. It really is beautiful, I love it! :)h

I'm adding to the praise Marvie!! Beautiful results for all your hard work. Did you say you crocheted the shawl in one day or a whole weekend? I want to make me one of those sometime soon. Thanks for the inspiration!! :clap :clap :clap

Rebecca,
All told there's about 16 hours of crochet time in it. I spent all of Sunday, from like noon till after midnight, working on it... just couldn't put it down. Then I put in another four hours or so over the course of yesterday and last night. It could have been done quicker but for all the ends that had to be woven.... a PITA but well worth it =)
Thanks for the praises =) I love it heheheh

My husband said the same thing about the shawl, the angel wings that is =)
I'm really happy with it... I think it's got to be the prettiest thing I've ever made. <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/cloud9.gif" />

Holly,
I have found this to be a pretty forgiving pattern. I know for a fact I lost and gained stitches in the making of this shawl, but I've looked at it pretty closely and really can't tell where it happened. After a while it's just a repetition of the same couple of counts. If I can do it anyone can <img border=0 src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/toothygrin.gif" />

Just beautiful. :clap And woohoo :cheer2 for you for recycling that $1.00 sweater. There is a performance artist who takes donated sweaters, unravels them, and then knits the yarn into a huge blanket. I'll try to find the link and I'll post it. Anyway, your salvage of the yarn reminded me of that performance artist's work.

Beautiful! I was just going to say that it looked like the wings of a bird - but angel wings is much more accurate!
How beautiful - and impressive that the "scrap" yarns look so pristine and impressive.

Thanks ya'll =) (it's still my favorite project and it's still on the back of my computer chair *g*)
I don't know of any other place online to get the pattern but I can email her and ask permission to print it and mail/ or copy/email it to you, I'm sure if she knows why she'll agree. Doni is a really great lady =)
