This is a butterfly I was working on last week, finally got the time to finish it. Still need to hide the ends.

This is the pattern I used.


Butterfly's Galore


Steel crochet hook size 4

Bedspread weight [#10] crochet cotton 40yds per butterfly

Size of each motif approx. 6" x 8"

Ch 8, join

Rnd 1)ch 3, 13 dc in ch 8, turn.

Rnd 2) ch 3(this counts as first dc, now and throughout), *ch 2, dc in next dc (9times), turn (this makes 10 ch-2 sp-this will not fill entire circle made.

Rnd3)ch 3, dc in ch-2 sp, *ch 2, 2 dc in next ch-2 sp, repeat from * across ending with dc in ch-2 sp, dc in last dc, turn.

Rnd 4)slst into ch-2 sp,ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc (this forms first shell), * ch 1, shell ( 3dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, repeat from * across, turn ( makes 9 shells)

Rnd 5) *shell in shell, ch 2, repeat from * across, turn

Rnd 6)shell in shell, *ch 2, 9trc in next shell, ch 2, shell in next shell, repeat from * across, turn

Rnd 7)shell in shell, ch 3, *dc in sp between trc (8times=8dc), (ch 3, 3dc,ch 2, 3 dc,ch 2, 3dc)=1½ shell in next shell, repeat from * across, ending with shell in last shell.

Rnd 8) shell in shell, ch 3, *dc between dc, ch 1, repeat (7times=7dc), ch 3, shell in ch-2 sp of 1st ch-2 of 1½ shell, ch 3, shell in next ch-2 sp (second of 1½ shell), ch 3, repeat from * across, ending with shell in shell, turn

Rnd 9)(starting wings here) shell in shell, ch 3, (dc in space betwn dc, ch 1) 6times=6dc, ch 3, shell in next shell, turn (finishing pineapple here so to form wing)

Rnd 10)shell in shell, ch 4,[ dc, ch 1( 5 times=5 dc)], ch 4, shell in shell, turn

Rnd 11)shell in shell, ch 4,[ dc, ch 1 (4 times=4dc)], ch 4, shell in shell, turn

Rnd 12)shell in shell, ch 4, [dc, ch 1 (3 times=3dc)], ch 4, shell in shell, turn

Rnd 13)shell in shell, ch 4, [dc, ch 1 (2 times=2dc)], ch 4, shell in shell, turn

Rnd 14)shell in shell, ch 4, [dc in ch-1sp betwn 2 dc} ch 4, shell in shell, tie off

Repeat 9-14 for each wing, starting each by shell in 2nd ch-2 sp of 1½ shell previous row.

Join butterfly's at wing tips. Here you will have to measure for size you want of finished project .
