If you enjoyed the first episode of our Crochet Unraveled podcast, please help us get the word out!
If you have a blog, tell the world about it! Feel free to tell people they can subscribe by entering the following RSS feed link in their iTunes or other podcast listening program:
http://www.crochetville.org/forum/external.php?forumids=139
You can also post the link to our Episode 1 Show Notes thread:
http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42277
(Since those long links get abbreviated, you might need to do a right-click "Copy Link Location" and then paste the entire text wherever you're trying to include this information.)
Hopefully, we'll soon have a "cover art" podcast logo that you'll also be welcome to snag and post on your blogs.
(If anybody wants to design something for us, it needs to be 300x300, and preferably with a main color that is similar to our Crochetville colors.)

sorry. I have been resisting to ask, but what actually is a "podcast"

A podcast is an audio broadcast that's accessed by an RSS subscription feed on the internet.
You can use iTunes or other podcast listening software to subscribe to the feed, and the episodes will automatically download to your computer whenever you open iTunes and new episodes are available.
If you don't want to subscribe, I have our show notes set up so people can download and listen to an individual episode. My browser would automatically open the file for me with QuickTime, but you can also listen with Windows Media Player.
The podcast is an mp3 file, so you can listen on your computer or download it to a portable mp3 player or PDA with audio capability so you can listen while you're out and about.

Yes, a radio show that you can listen to on the computer or an mp3 player.
The first episode was almost half an hour in length, which is right around where I'd like to keep it. Unless listeners know they want the episodes to be longer, in which case I want to have a LOT of listener content so people don't get bored just listening to me and/or Donna.

You can also just go to the top of the show notes thread and click on the link for the file itself. My browser will open the mp3 file with quick time.

Is it okay if I make a little bitty suggestion on the subject of publicity? :scrachin I know I'm personally in the habit of coming to this forum and scrolling to the show and tell area first, then checking out the other areas if I have the time. I check in almost every day, but I never knew a podcast was in the works until yesterday when a thread containing the word "podcast" caught my eye from the list of last posts.
What I'm getting at is that maybe it would be helpful if for a short time (maybe just for the first week or until you get your official logo) you could put up a bold, brightly-colored notice about the podcast at the top of the main page, near the Crochetville logo. Maybe a few words about it in a contrasting color that can't be overlooked, in case there are any other members here who are as oblivious as I am to changes made on the board. Just a suggestion you can take or leave. ;)
I enjoyed the first episode, by the way. I was especially impressed with the stats on how the membership has skyrocketed since 2005. Wow!:yay

Sue89's suggestion is a good one. I am dropping in after a few months away, and the podcast note just happened to catch my eye-- maybe I'm attuned because I'm slightly obsessed with podcasts.
I have noticed that several knit podcasters have been mentioning crochet lately. Podcasters always seem to be promoting each other or mentioning new podcasts; maybe you/we/whoever would be in charge of doing such things could send information to some of them to read "on air" or even record a short promo for them to play. The ladies from "Stash and Burn" talked a lot about crochet in a recent episode (www.stashandburn.com) and I've heard them promote other podcasts. Brenda Dayne who does "Cast On" (www.cast-on.com) has a lot of listeners and has been very encouraging of fiber-related podcasts.
I have also seen that a lot of podcasters have a separate site for show notes, even if they already have a site/blog of their own. Often it's set up with some kind of free blogging software like Blogger or Wordpress.
When I type "Crochet" into www.podcastalley.com, you are the Number One show! There is another site like that, www.podcastpickle.com, that will allow you to add your podcast.

If you could make a promo (a brief introduction to your show, just tell in 30 seconds what's it about) it sure would be played by all major podcasters with related content. Brenda Daynes (Cast on, one of the most successful podcasts about knitting) for example plays promos if the quality is good (which yours is) and if the content matches (in my opinion crochet and knitting are different, but matching).
The podcasting scene is a very friendly one, we help each other.
I would of course play your promo in my podcast show, because telling the people without playing a promo is just half as convincing. I sure will link to your RSS-Feed, anyway.
I wish you good luck and I am looking forward to the next show!
