OK, you are either laughing hysterically :rofl or saying, "Huh?" :huh
A coworker's mother has recently been put on oxygen and she has to drag her tank around and it is not the best looking dress accessory. I though about crocheting her a tank dress/cover. Like the toaster covers, etc.
Any ideas:idea on a pattern:? I'm not a beginner and I am quickly coming into intermediate crocheting.

Depending on her tastes, I think you have a lot of options you could do. If she is a girly girl you could always make a cover that looks like a dress, like the ones you make to put over dish washing soap. You could always add fun fur or boa yarns and make a "Glam" cover. It would be kinda cool to make something like this up. just make sure you leave opening for all the tubes and what not that are attached to the tank.

This is a cute idea.
I am on oxygen and never thought of crocheting a cover for it.
But I have given my portable tank a name .
I call it Rufus !!! LOL.

A few of my "older" friends were on oxygen. I think they would have gotten a kick out of them being decorated.
I'm thinking like a bag design. Of course, in her/his favorite colors to brighten her/his spirits. You could also make it funny by making it have hair and a face...etc. Depends on the person.:manyheart

Thanks for reminding me about the tubes, I didn't even think about those.
I think I need some type of tube pattern, like a stocking cap.

How about a ponytail hat pattern with the hole in the top already? You'd just have to make it a larger hole.

Ponytale tube, again you'd have to make it larger:

I would make it a slip on cover--without a bottom--because I would suspect with the hauling and dragging it around would wear the yarn down rapidly. (Plus tanks are heavy, so you'd slip this one over the top and down the tank versus having to slip the tank into a cover, like a foot into a sock) Around the top could be a short, simple drawstring so the yarn/cover wouldn't come up high on the tank fittings. Colorful granny squares would be pretty, or a nice shell stitch.

Maybe some sort of wine bottle cover type thing? I have a friend on oxygen and have been thinking about this same thing - I can't believe someone here hasn't direct linked ya to a specific pattern for it!

I work in a doctor's office to support my crochet habit and I quickly ran down to measure our oxygen tank. It looks like it could be very simple made like a tube the only issue i can see is the "cart" used to carry it around. you may have to make it with ties of sorts to wrap around the tank and cart. I will work on it tonight and try it out on our tank here monday and let you know.

Zelma-Warrior Grandmother...
just wondering if you had any luck with a pattern.. i just got home from the lung doctor with my grandmother and he put her on oxygen. since she is not happy about this i thought i could make it a little easier by crocheting something for her. she loves when i surprise her with stuff i have made her, which is not too often.
thanks

I'm thinking more like a wrap with ties and a drawstring for the top to gather . Kinda like how a hospital gown works. This way the bottom won't be a problem and it would be easy to wrap and unwrap for washing.:think

we can cover anything in crochet. this is wonderful. beads, a dress cover, you could make a granny square with sock monkey blocks, or even hello kitty, .i can wait to look here again in a couple of days to see what you guys have come up with. what wonderful and loving thing to do for someone. kinda makes me want to make one and take it as a gift to the nursing home down the street. I love the ponytail hat idea. I decided to just use a pattern for the skull tyupe knitted caps. She can pull it up and use a drawstring to close it on the top. That is for the lighter tank. I am using a pattern for those floppyear caps and I don't close it, again I use a drawstring.
Thanks for the ideas.

I LOVE ALL OF THE IDEAS. Right now I am crocheting a winter cover for her and then I will do her a spring cover and so on. Once I get one completed I will see who I need to send a photo to to get it on the Forum.
I just love this place, it gives me a warm a fuzzy feeling, like a skein of plush yarn.:fluffy
