Hey everyone, I just bought a bunch of Caron Boucle on clearance at Hobby Lobby/:applause. The only problem is I am not quite sure what I want to do with it:think . This is my first time using this type of yarn and would like to start out with some ideas. I have navy, country blue, and white. What have you done and what size hook do you recommend. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I haven't used Caron's brand, but I have made several aghans with Bernat Soft Bouchle and a shawl with JoAnn's Rainbow Bouchle. The great thing about it is that it's really soft and WARM! The only suggestion I can give is to use a pattern that calls for a larger hook (at least a J) and something that doesn't use specialty stitches as you won't see the stitches with this kind of yarn.

Good luck!!!!!!!!!

Hi! I just joined today and saw your message. Most yarn manufacturers offer free patterns on their websites. I would check www.caron.com, www.coatsandclark.com,lionbrand.com,bernat.com and patonsyarn.com. Most of these websites you can pull up projects by yarn weight or type. Some even have a "yarn switcher" mechanism. My absolute favorite is lion's website. I believe boucle is usually a 4 or a 5 (??) on the yarn weight charts. So you could also look for projects that require bulky yarn and just substitute the boucle for that. Just make sure your gauge matches before you start! Another helpful website might be yarndex.com, it lists all the different yarns and you could get an idea what other yarns are comparable in weight to boucle and look for projects in those yarns as well and then switch for the boucle. Hope this helps!

I have some of Joann's Boucle yarn and after several months of just staring at it, thinking "what in the world am I going to do with that?" I've decided to make a granny square afghan but instead of lots of little squares just make a HUGE granny square. I'm using a k hook so you can't really see the stitches that perfectly (well the dc anyway) but I think the big squishy block and then space looks really nice and solid but really drapey and soft.

I am using a pattern for a suit in the book "Beautiful Crocheted Sweaters" by Patricia Bevans. I located the book at my local library. I am crocheting the Chanel-inspired suit with Boucle yarn. Difficult to work with, but worth the effort. It is very contemporary, but classic for this particular suit pattern.

I have some Bernat boucle that I'm going to make into a cardigan - either using simple dc or *gasp* knitting (as you can't see the stitches, I don't mind knitting it. Normally, I think knitting is boring looking).

If you find any good patterns, please share (as long as they are free, of course!).

This Pineapple Set (http://www.angelfire.com/folk/celtwich/PineFan.html) makes an incredible shawl done with Boucle yarn. I've made a couple using Sirdar Yo-Yo which is very much like JoAnn's Boucle (but much more expensive). Because the original pattern calls for thread, the pattern comes out great with yarn and a larger hook. And who doesn't like pineapples?! There are many threads here at the 'Ville and elsewhere on the net devoted to just this pattern & yarn.

This is a different kind of boucle - i got mine on clearance at JoAnns (4 each of pink, white, yellow). For those who haven't seen it it seems like a cotton type of yarn with loops....not anything like other boucles i've used or see. I have had too many other things I'm working on to have worried about a pattern but I'm with the lady who said to check Caron's site. That will be my first place to look.
