Hi!
Finally I can show my cabled bag which got published in the latest issue of Family Circle Easy Crochet. They also did a review of my crochet CDs woohoo.:cheer I really love a ot of the patterns in this issue. Epecially the lacy white tops. Its a shame the magazine is being discontinued. But there are supposed to be some new ones cropping up.http://hipvintagecrochet.com/personal/Alexcablebagsm.jpg

Thanks everyone for all the compliments :) I made this bag almost a year ago because I was jealous of all the cable knit bags in the posh boutiques. The people in my "knit & wine" group encouraged me to submit it to a magazine.
If you do try the pattern, all the abbreviations and instructions are confusing at first but after a few rounds you can work out how it goes by the pattern and the look of it. I do wish they included a stitch diagram though, because they are often easier to follow than instructions. Also, if you are watching your pennies, you can use Wool-Ease instead of Patons Wool.

Thanks for the information about the yarn. I was wondering what kind it used. Both Wool Ease and Patons Wool are easy for me to get. I appreciate patterns that use yarns that are easy to find and in my price range.

I just bought that issue the other day and your purse was one of the biggest reasons that I bought it!!! I love it!
When I saw it, I did wonder if it was a design from a C'ville member! :D
Great job on it!!!

I just got my copy yesterday at walmart. The site for Patons and Bernat are way too busy to get into right now, but there are links for patterns on those sites in the magazine as well.

I live really not to far from you (about an hour...) and I got my copy from one of the JoAnn stores, not the little fabric one, but the big superstore one. If one carries it, you'd think that they all should.

Hey! That is my favourite thing in that magazine! It's so beautiful. I haven't done any cable crochet before and I'm having difficulty with it. I plan to stick to it however, because I really want to give it to my sister for her birthday. I guess that practice makes perfect, right?

I'm actually working on the purse, but when I get to round 6 (RS) it seems like the 17 hdc's come first and then the FPtr's for the centre pattern. Everything up to this point works out for me and then it's off from this point. If anyone else is working it up - can you let me know if I'm maybe doing something wrong? :) I love how the diamonds and the pattern work up, even though I'm only round 6!

I REALLY love your bag!!! It's a shame on me that I can't figure out where is the right place to join yarn in round 3 - clockwise or counterclock?

Clockwise or counterclockwise depends if you are left of right handed. You have the wrong side (WS) of the work facing you for round 3. Other side to the previous row. Oddly enough I didnt have the fastening off and joining in the original pattern I sent them, go figure.

I just used the wizard fabric because it was what I had and because my sister loves wizards. She had emailed me some knitted cabled bags and loves the ribbon so when I saw your pattern in the magazine, I immediately went out and bought the yarn, handles and ribbon. I love it. Everyone who has seen it loves it.
I gave it my own "personal touch" (translation: Many errors)
Thank you for such a beautiful bag.

I got informed of a mistake in the published pattern in round 6.
Round 6 would be: Sl st in next st, ch 2, HDC IN NEXT 16 STS , *FPtr around next post etc.
Did anyone else have problems with this row?
P.S. HER your bag looks great!

Hi Angelhair! I had trouble with row 6...I actually had emailed the editor of FC Easy Crochet asking about it, and they wrote back last Monday to tell me it was correct. But...I got an email today telling me they were checking on it. So, it might be my fault you heard about it today. I actually figured it out on my own after their first response to me (I just hate being wrong...). Thanks for posting this here - it's easing my mind!
And I LOVE the purse! I was determined not to abandon it after the confusion (believe me, that's a testament to your beautiful design! This is by far the nicest crochet cable purse pattern that I've seen). Thank you so much!

Hi Tami,
I'm glad you liked the pattern. It must have been you they emailed me about! Looking at the instructions and looking at my purse it looked correct, but they started the rounds at a different place from my original pattern that I submitted is why I didnt spot the turn thing.
Does this correction sound right?
[Round 6: Sl st in next st, ch 2, HDC IN NEXT 16 STS , *FPtr around next post etc. ]
It would be so much easier with a stitch diagram. I think more magazines should use those.

Picked up my copy of the magazine and can't wait to get started. This will be by far the hardest item I've attempted, but I did do the JoAnn's honeycomb purse, so I feel good about understanding that part of the bag. Thank you for the beautiful bag and for postng the corrections to row six.

I'm glad I found this post. I am making this for my SIL for Christmas and have frogged it a zillion times. I think this time I am right with it. The diamond shapes had me messed up and I thought the initial 8 stitches marker was a bit confusing, as in where did I really start counting? Then I figured that out and I too had an issue with the one round with the pattern written backwards. Figured that one out. I think now that I have worked the kinks out it will work ok. I'm doing it in pink and will hopefully finish it up in a few days.
