My friend is getting married, and I'm her maid of honor. I would like to make her a gift to go along with the other gifts I'm giving the couple, but I don't know what to make. Maybe an afghan? What do you think? If you have an idea, specific patterns would be a great help. Thanks!

It depends on when the wedding is. Do you have enough time for an afghan? Is the gift just for her or both of them? Do you crochet in just yarn or thread too?

There are many afghans and other things here:

If you use thread, a nice little crocheted bag she could carry on her special day would be very nice. Or you could make her garter (the one she does not throw!) or the pillow carried by the ringbearer. Crochet an edging around a handkerchief.

The wedding is in March. It won't be a problem if I don't finish my project in time, because I have another gift that won't be done until after the wedding is over, anyway. I would like something for the both of them, since I was already thinking about making a garter for her (I found two I love, now I just need to decide between them). I'm not an expert crocheter, so I need something that isn't too difficult. I haven't worked with thread yet, but I guess you've got to start somewhere, right?

Here are a few of my favorite squares. Done in all white or off white (or even her favorite color) they'd look elegant. Do the afgan using only the same square pattern or combine a couple. Be careful mixing heavy squares with light squares though, it might not look good.

This would looke elegant all in one color or pretty in a few of her favorites:

A few afghans.

Again pretty all in white or in three colors:

There's one on this page called Diagonal Lace. It's a baby blanket but if you know how to make it larger, I think it'd make a pretty bridal gift:

Something warmer, make it match her livingroom for a nice winter throw:

Another baby blanket that you can keep going on. It's lovely as is or done in a couple tones of white would be nice:

Something to fold up and not take up a lot of room:

Yet another baby blanket that would be elegant made larger:

Pretty and different:

That should be a good start for you to look through. :)

Wow, thanks for all the links! I absolutely love the pineapple doily and the filet square doily, but I think it would take me forever to finish either one of those, so I think I'll put those on my to-do list, and make the diagonal lace afghan in the meantime. Thanks again!

when my niece got married this past july I gave her a large thread doily that had doves all around it and it was quite large well she truely loved it and had it on display on her dining room table.

So this aunt was very pleased. I'll see if I can find the picture and post it here.
