What are your favorite stitches/stitch patterns for socks? Bonus points for something non-bulky and slightly stretchy. <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/veryhappy.gif" />

I made one sock in KPPPM using esc and hdc alternated rows that turned out really well with a neat pattern.

I did one sock in an esc shell all the way around in back loops only -- it looks neat and it's stretchier than normal, but it's a little holey (maybe I need a smaller hook).

I haven't gotten beyond a simple hdc sock/slipper yet. Took me three pairs before I got something comfortable to wear, have made two pair since then and wear those two all the time... those first few pairs are kinda sitting in the back of my drawer now lol.

I definitely like doing esc and hdc, mostly because I'm impatient and I like having it done faster. :) I like the look of the esc in a sock too.

hi jess:
i saw the socks that you made using esc and decided to use it for my next pair. i finished one sock already and i am very pleased with the the texture of the stitch and how fast its worked up. so far it is my favorite stitch for socks.

my first pair of socks were all sc and everyone i showed them to asked why the cuffs we so short, i told them i just couldn't do anymore of the tiny stitiches. i will try the alternating rows of esc/hdc for the next pair of socks that i make.

i also used the alternating sc/dc toes up socks pattern from southbay crochet, but the socks were too stretchy when i put them on, so i have to frog :frog them to shorten the foot. argh!

tracy:)
