Okay, I'm halted at the moment as I need to pick up a hook smaller to do the top ribbing. I am using SamplerLady's tutorial and I am really pleased at how easy this is working up! I think I made it a tad too wide, but for my first go at a sock, I'm really pleased. Hopefully tonight I'll finish it!

I finished the sock :) Thank you, SamplerLady, for the excellent tutorial! I am really happy with my first go. The ankle part is too loose, but I think I know how to remedy that--by decreasing once around for every row of the ankle (which I might have been suppose to have done, but I read it as decreasing in the first row, then just going around and around).

I might pull out the ankle and rework it, we'll see, I'll do the second one first and see how that turns out.

Great work! If you made it out of non-superwash wool, it'll get a bit smaller when you wash it and fit a little tighter. Mine are always snugger when I put them on in the morning than when I take them off at night.:D

Thank you all for the encouragement! I finished the pair yesterday, even pulled out the first ankle and tightened it up a bit. All in all this was a very good experience. I can certainly see future socks whipping up quite quickly--I made the second one in an evening. I used worsted weight, which turned out more of slipper sock. I do have some sock yarn, but I think I'll make another pair of bulkier ones before I use that.
