Hmmm let me try this again, I messed up somehow posting these pics...
Christmas socks made this weekend, came out much better than the other pair. Hubby was a huge help with making sure the heel fit, I don't know how he does it since he doesn't know a thing about crochet but he can look at something and tell me how many rows to add or frog to get the right fit, he has good ideas for solving other issues too. He's a handy guy to have around. ;)

I give up, I'm doing something way wrong and have tried four times to post these pics.:bang I'll be putting them up on my blog anyway so you can click my link below to see them.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v478/SamplerLady/mmouseplus.gifYou were using your photo hosting's code and not ezboard's html code. I've done it several times myself and it always takes me a few minutes to figure out why I'm not smarter than the computer!
Nice socks! Which pattern do you use?

SLady I used your mitten formula! It's how I've made all three pair so far lol. The ones with heels I just did the chain across like I do for the flip part of the mitten, then went back and added the heel, which has no pattern I just made a circle and sc'd it in. This time the cuff is fp/bp though usually I do that seperately doing BL only turning at each end to get a ribbed effect.
I think the next socks I may try to follow a pattern though, I have several sock patterns bookmarked just haven't tried them yet.
Thanks for figuring out the picture thing for me... I don't know why I was such a doof today, I have posted pics before and it worked fine.... I wasn't really paying attention today though I think. My brain has just been all over the place today!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v478/SamplerLady/mmouseplus.gifMarvie, I used my sock formula to make you the mitten formula! :D
For the heels, join yarn to the "hole". Sc around. From then on do two decreases at the sides/points of the hole each time around until the hole is about an inch or so. Then cut yarn leaving long tail. Turn inside out and use tail to stitch shut.
Congrats on doing the noodle dance! (Anyone who watches Disney channel in the morning will know what I'm talking about....PPJ Otter!)

SLady, printed those instructions off and will use them next time. Also the part in the help section where you sposted about how you do toes... gotta try that too!
I'm really liking sock making :) I can whip out a pair at night while watching movies, or take my time and work on one over a couple of days while I'm at the puter reading. Bet they'd be great bus projects too.

Rebecca,
I'm looking forward to seeing your first pair of socks! I have faith in ya, know that I'm over here cheering you on :cheer2
I still say try the easy mitten formula way first, just to get a pair under your belt... I have yet to use a sock pattern for any of my three pair. Now that I have made these though I am feeling brave enough to tackle the various sock patterns. Not sure which ones yet, though I'm pretty sure of which yarn I'll use... maybe one of these days I'll try 'em with sock yarn lol. I'm not trying to wear them with shoes yet though, these are just foot warmers so bulky doesn't matter. Frankly, mistakes don't either lol. If it keeps my footies warm I'm happy. I don't even notice the messed up heels on the other pair lol.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v478/SamplerLady/mmouseplus.gifI think the trick is learning how socks are constructed. Once the "mystery" is revealed, the fear goes away. Once I watched the HBO special on how the special effects of American Werewolf in London was made, I could watch the movie! :rofl
If you want, rebecca, we can do a step by step on the sock recipe. We can take pics and make a tutorial if it'll help you learn how. I'm sure there's someplace we can put the tutorial up so future generations of sock enthusiasts can benefit from it. I can even get hold of Linda at Grafton Fibers and ask permission to use her pattern for the tutorial.

Thanks everyone =) I'm pretty happy with the way these turned out. The next pair will be even better, esp. with the tutorial! Can't wait for that =)
The one thing I did notice about these though, is since I used cotton they aren't quite as warm as the other two pair. I'd hoped the sc would help that, but it didn't seem to help much. They still keep my feet warmer than if they were bare and protect them from the cold floors, I mostly only notice it when I go outside, even with slippers on my toes get chilled lol. I still love them though! Matter of fact I better get them washed so I can wear them tomorrow!
