I am working on my first pair of socks right now and just using some pink fingering yarn I had lying around the house because I couldn't wait to get to the store to start LOL. I'm loving making these things tho and went today to get myself some sock yarn and was also looking online for some.

I just wondered what is everyone's favorite yarns for socks and where are the good deals for them? LOL I can see myself really getting addicted to these.

Well I think I posted that prematurely LOL...I've been sitting here working on that first sock since I posted and it looks like CRAP! LOL...everything is great til I got to the toe and the heel and then it all went straight downhill...but I'm determined because I love this sock yarn I bought today and I can't wait to try it out.

I've used Lion Brand's Magic Socks, but I have some Paton's Kroy and Cascade Fixation (not necessarily a sock yarn, but can be used) lying around that needs to be made into something before it deserts me. :)

I make all my socks from the toe up using ww wool...some of which I've spun myself! I wear these socks with my Birks and if there's rain I have clear plastic boots to wear with them! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v478/SamplerLady/mmouseplus.gif

Bought it from Connie's Yarn Shop? on eBay
Hubby wanted to know if I could make the socks this evening:rollin :rotfl :rollin

My current fav is Moda-Dea Sassy Stripes "stripes and patterns appear as you knit or crochet." It worked up very easily, little splitting, and the final result is very nice, although being 100% acrylic I guess it's not technically a sock yarn?

I'm surprised no body mentioned Opal. It's by far my favorite sock yarn, both for knitting & crocheting socks. Opal is fairly well priced, too - about $12 a skein, and a skein is 100 oz. They have a large number of "collections", each collection being a different type, like stripes, or jacquards, or solids, or handpaints, etc. I also love Regia.

*blinking* 100 oz?? i think maybe its 100 grams .. cause 100 oz would be over 8 pounds.. LOL .. no worries though i get confused sometimes too

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v478/SamplerLady/mmouseplus.gifAcrylic socks are no fun to wear! Tips, though, are to use hdc rather than sc as it's a bit fluffier. Wool blends make wonderful socks as do 100% wool ones. I can be found on any given morning washing one pair of wool socks while wearing another. :D

My absolute fav is the regia for price, durability, pleasure to knit with and choice of color. I've knit a few pair with the really luscious yarns like Cherry Tree Hill and Koigu - those are wonderful but not quite as long lasting. (See my home page for my sock album and free patterns -- all knit, tho.)
