I completed my first pair of socks today. I love them so much I've already ordered more sock yarn to make more. I may give them as gifts, but we will see. The new colors I picked out seem to be my favorites.

I put a picture of the socks on my blog, if you want to go look. I can't help it, I'm excited! They were so much fun to make!

Thanks Donna! I almost wish it were cold here so I could wear them now. Almost.

Thanks Chelle and Emily! The yarn was a gift from my secret pal, but she did a great job with her choice.

has anyone ever used lydia's denim to make socks?

I have my sock yarn out and ready to make my first pair of socks, but I'm not sure of what pattern to use. What would be a good pattern for a beginner sock crocheter?

I wish I could tell you a good beginner pattern, but I am just starting myself. I'm using the Button Top Socks pattern in Donna Kooler's Encyclopedia of Crochet. So far it's not difficult.

I used Pam's sock pattern at CrochetMe. The next pair of socks I'm itching to get started on will use the Toe Up Sock pattern this time.

Yeah, I want to do that toe up pattern, too.

I'd like to try making some socks!! Is there yarn specifically for socks?? Or can I use any yarn that seems sturdy enough to hold up?? :wave

There is specific sock yarn, but you can use anything you want if you think it will be comfortable. Just adapt the pattern as you need, using a larger hook for thicker yarns. Head over to the Crochetalong forum and look through the sock CAL thread, there are some great links there.

Oh good! I found some really nice wooly yarn that I might make for a girl that is moving to Scotland. She'll need them there!! :eek
