I've been wondering... when do you use a top vs bottom whorl spindle? (I've been checking this stuff out a bit, but this is a question that has me puzzled.)

from what i understand (i only have a top whorl) it's personal preference...
i've heard top spin faster

from the booklet i recieved i understood it to be the top is a little smaller and finer yarns can be spun on it since its not as heavy.. and the bottom is a little heavier for heavier type yarns.. i have angora for the top and i have wools for the bottom..

my bottom whorl looks just like yours Beth. I still haven't been able to figure it out, I think I just need some one on one lessons. But I'm not giving up yet!! So whataya gonna make from your pretty yarns??? Something for SP?

Rebecca, have you checked out the videos on www.joyofhandspinning.com/HowToDropspin.html (http://www.joyofhandspinning.com/HowToDropspin.html) ? I watched those and RebeccaV's videos and pretty much understood the process... still have tons to learn, but those were helpful to me, because I have to see it done, then copy it. I can't just read directions and do it.

well Rebecca's videos weren't there on the page she linked to and the ones you linked to, the videos aren't working, even after I downloaded the quicktime player.

hmmm I didn't have any trouble with them... or with the ones on Rebecca's page.... I wonder what program or whatever I have that you might be missing? I don't know anything about that stuff... I clicked, they played, I was happy lol. Maybe someone will come along who knows more than me.... I hope so because those videos are super helpful!
