BeadWorks Beaded Bag Competition: See post #64 .... MY Show Results

I got brave and submitted 4 of my beaded purses to the Beadwork Magazines Beaded Bag contest. This is a juried competition just for beaded purses. Well I just recieved notice that 2 of my purses made the first cut. So I shipped them off to them on Friday. I am just so thrilled to have made it this far with them. Regardless of how they do from this point. I am happy. It makes me feel good that I can represent Bead Crochet in this manner.

Needless to say I feel honored, but just a bit nervous about the whole thing.

These bags are my own creations. I started making crocheted beaded purses about 5 years ago when I wanted a beaded purse and couldn't afford one. So I came up with a method that works and have been making beaded purses ever since. Wow! Your bags are exquisite! I hope you win! Congratulations! Where did you learn to make these bags? Kathy, congratulations!!! I know you must be thrilled! I love beading, but so far I've just done regular beadweaving (peyote stitch, brick stitch, etc.) with needle and thread. I need to someday branch out into beaded crochet! And one of your bags may just be the inspiration I need to do it!

Thank You Everyone for your support. That means a lot to me. I am glad I only have a little over a month to wait for the final results. I really don't expect to win anything, But there is always that little part that hopes. This is a major competition and I am sure there are lots, and lots of beautiful pieces.

Well I received an email today that listed all the winners in the Beaded Bag competition.
Guess What. My name was on it.
Apparently my purse HANDbag won an award.

Not sure what it won yet. They listed the winners in alphabetical order, so I quess I have to wait and find out what it won, when they post them in April.
But regardless of if it is only an honorable mention, I am thrilled to get so far in a competition of this caliber.
It will be going to the Bead Expo and be in June/ July issue of the Beadwork Magazine.
So as you can well imagine my feet are not touching the floor.

you do excellent work, I hope you decide either to formally publish or self publish. The last bead crochet book I bought was Carol Ventura's Beaded Tapestry Crochet. She has a beaded crochet purse pattern in Bead & Button as well, don't recall the issue, but I have it as I found it at WalMart.

Well today the Bead Expo opens and I still have no clue as to how I placed. http://simplycrochet.org/forum/images/smilies/scratchchin.gif They aren't planning on posting the gallery shots on their website until the end of the month. Going to be so hard if I have to wait that long.
This is so hard knowing, but not knowing. I am not sure if it would be approriate to email them and ask.http://simplycrochet.org/forum/images/smilies/various1/11.gif Not sure what proper protocal would be on something like this. I am not a pushy person.
But it is a weird feeling knowing that my bag is being seen by lots of people, and I must wait to find out just how it did. I certainly couldn't afford to go down for the show.

Well...... they put up the results from the Beaded Bag Juried Bead show. I thought there would be placings. But apparently not. If you made the final cut you were a winner. So I am a Winner. http://simplycrochet.org/forum/images/smilies/woohoo-022.gif

The only placing I could find was Best of show ( Myrle Borine with a bag called On The Town. )

My Ashley bag is in the finalist Gallery. So both my purses are getting some good exposure.

There were 202 entries total.
They narrowed it down to 61 finalists . and then down to 35 winners. So I did pretty good all considered.
