I used to use a cake* of Lily Sugar&Cream Cotton to hold my hooks and needles. After I made a handbag out of some lovely recycled silk from Mango Moon, though, I had just a little left over and it would be a true tragedy to let any of that scrumptious yarn go to waste, so, I decided to make a cover for my cake.
I crocheted a circle the size of my cake and then knitted a rectangle piece as wide as the cake was tall, wrapped it around, then whip stitched the sides together and top on, slipped it over the cake, and VOILA!

*cake = what happens when you wind yarn with a yarn winder. I can't think of a more appropriate word.
