http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o219/MindyJedi/CupcakeSweater.jpg This is the yarn that my daughter and husband "did not" spill sangria all over. It is/was white, worsted cotton. I frogged the original project that I started with it, and used it to try-out the Cupcake pattern from the Happy Hooker book. After it was completed, I washed the shirt and, while still wet, poured another bottle of wine over the whole thing (Merlot, for those who are connoisseurs). I dried the shirt without rinsing to set the "stains" (this made the house smell like wine). I ran a wine colored ribbon through the neckline and Voila, a cupcake with wine!

It looks a little splotchy, but I like that effect as I plan to wear this with worn-out jeans. If you want to try this, I suggest buying two bottles of wine; With two, I could have submerged the shirt and let it set for a while to darken the color. Or, you could buy three bottles...:party

I love it! It looks like it was a yarn that was systematically dyed to produce the pattern. Beautiful.:clap

Very cool! I would have bought the third bottle of wine. I'm not sure I could have purposfully 'spilled' a nice merlot just to dye some yarn, but I love the effect :)

2 bottles of wine to the shirt??? :eek I hope those are not expensive wines. Otherwise I would cry for the loss of red wine :D

Your shirt is beautiful and you have such a creative idea. Great job Mindy! :clap

No, it wasn't expensive wine. $2.00 at grocery outlet. I don't even cook with wine this cheap.

In your opinion, how difficult was this pattern? I've been thinking about trying one..

The pattern is all hdc's with all the shaping done at the sides of the pieces. I added a few short rows at the bust area for more shaping ( these weren't in the pattern, and aren't necessary for the average figure.) The sleeves turned out too long, in my opinion. So, if you make this, you may want to measure the sleeve as you go and adjust it if you want.

I am planning to make another one because I do like the pattern so much. This one will have shorter sleeves and be done in black, I think!

Thanks for all the nice comments. I think it's kinda funny that I'm getting a Wine Club Directory add at the end of this post.

Makes me wonder; Will they know what type of wine goes best with cotton worsted?

I think it looks like a fancy varigated yarn. Beautiful sweater, I love it. I wonder if blackberry merlot would give something a purple tone to it. I would wear that with my favorite dressy jeans.
