To check my gauge, even with thread!
I crochet really tightly no matter what. I usually move up a hook size or two, but with thread I've found that with #10 thread, a 1.5-1.6mm hook works okay. Until now, it hasn't been too much of a problem with thread, but I've mostly been working motifs and bookmarks.
I finished doily #11 from Leisure Arts' Big Book of Little Doilies. It was supposed to be 4.5" when complete.
Mine? 3" !
[and man! the twisted tr was a total pain! neat stitch though.]
