5 petal stitch with lattice poncho

I'm trying to make a poncho out of 2 rectangles using suttygirl's 5 petal stitch with lattice instructions. My problem is that the first row lattice is crling up. What should I do? Should I add another row of lattice? I am using bedspread weight thread by the way.:idea

what about steaming it flat???:thinking1

I know this sounds weird but I don't have a steam iron....any other ideas? :blush

what about ironing over it with a towel on top..... maybe lightly spritz it with water, lay on a towel and iron it....:thinking2
