Anyone done a poncho from thread?

I started some granny squares from some inexpensive thread from Hobby Lobby, varigated and colors from within the varigated. They seen to work up quickly, but I have tendonitis and the small hook hurts my hand and wrist. I want to put together a poncho from the granny squares because I thought it would be a little lighter weight but still gve me some coverage(I'm hot all the time!). Are there any tricks to thread crochet?

I was thinking about making (or designing) a poncho for thread but I just don't have the time or the know-how. I think it would be nice, though. :))

I have NO know how, I'm just winging it. I'll hate how it turns out, give it to my daughter, she'll love it, wear it all the time, get tons of complements, then I'll make another for myself. That's just how it goes in my house!:wink

I also would like a poncho pattern using thread, I live in Florida and we have no use for heavy ponchos, but I doubt there is a pattern, would have to wing it as you said. But remember using thread will take much longer to make. I just finished one using the Boucle yarn, it turned out ok,but it looked like a carpet. I hated it and so did my daughter whom I made it for, so I pulled it all out and started making it with just the chain stich and then single crochet, normal pattern stuff. realllll easssy. looks much better, will finish today and then see what it looks like. Will not be using that stuff or homespun again, way to thick for Florida.

I saw one at some store around here a few months ago(maybe when school started) that was very light weight, looked like thread. It was made up of granny squares. So I figured I would find a pattern I like of a granny square poncho and use it as a guide. I have found that the grany squares are going very quickly with the thread. In fact maybe I'll work on it tonite!:rock

<span style="font-family:times new roman; color:orange;font-size:medium;">I just finished my first design for a thread poncho.I really loved it.I do have one problem though.I used thread i bought on ebay and i can't find more.The label is in what i think is german and the only thing i can decifer is nylon.I think it is a cotton/nylon blend.It drapes beautifully,hope i can find something similar.I used a larger hook and it worked up pretty fast.</span>

i would think if you used a cotton thread that was a little thicker that size 10, maybe and 8 ot 5 that you could make a poncho pretty easy. i use the size 5 and 3 thread all if the time to make purses with so don't see why you couldn't do it with a poncho, would probably take you a little longer but you could use like a C or even a B hook and it would be a little faster than with the steel hooks. thats what i do for my purses. vicki:bounce

Christycreations, I love your love knot poncho! :)h I just made one from 2 rectangles, sewn together. I tend to prefer round ponchos like yours though. I don't have a clue how to increase in love knot though. :thinking2 You must have had to increase between the neckline and the shoulders, right? :thinking1 Can you clue me in on how to do that? Please, please??? :ducky

:cloud9 Glad you liked it.I increase in the 2nd or 3rd rnd(depending how wide you need the shoulders) and continued increasing every other row for 4 rows.To increase i worked a double knot st in both sc's of the dbl knot of the previous rnd.Space them evenly around.

I'm not sure if I understand. :thinking1 There is a sc that starts a dbl. love knot stitch, another one that ends the first love knot before you begin the 2nd love knot of a dbl. love knot, and then one that ends the whole dbl. love knot and also begins the next dbl love knot. So are you saying, when increasing, to do the dbl. love knot in the beginning sc, the middle sc, and then the end one (which is also the beginning of the next)? Ooh, talk about confusing! :loco Did you follow my thought process?

OK, if this is a double love knot with the '-' being a sc and the 'O' being the loop...

Okay crochetingmom,i read your post,my post and your post and now i'm confused.Starting over.You have a rnd of knots.Your starting the next rnd,you pull up a loop,you do your double lover's knot:instead of making your sc in the center sc of the next double lover's knot of the previous rnd,you place the sc in the 1 st sc.Then do your next dbl knot and make your sc in the center sc of the dbl lov knot of prev. rnd.I try to space the increase sts out otherwise it never seems to lay right ,so i only use the 1st 2 sc.(sc at the start of the dbl. lov. knot) and the sc in the middle.I consider the one at the end the start of the next and skip it.I do 3 or 4 regular dbl. lov knot sts,then another increase.

How would you do a decrease...? i love this stitch, just learned it the other day, and I can't get the decrease down...I want to do a decrease at each end of the row...making a sweater and shaping the waist, etc...
