Hi I'm making a afghan out of granny sampler blocks. Most are front post and the blocks have an aran feeling. wanted to make a heart and had thought of doing the heart in front post but didn't want that stepped feeling. So I decided to go with more of a round stitch and started working with the popcorn stitch but am looking for something smaller, more of a filler that is only as raised as a DC front post. Any ideas what stitch I could use?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

This is the first thing that came to mind

This stitch might be a bit higher than you want but it does provide that interest with less effort than the usual popcorn.
You might also be able to get an effect by adapting to (sc,dc, sc) in each stitch.

Thanks darski that is interesting. I especially like the SC next to the DC which would give it more definition. But I am looking for something lower, more like a french knot or little coil. :::shaking head:::: I'm baffled

The only thing I can think of is a picot.

Try this: finish the stitch that is before where you want the "knot to be"then chain either 2,or 3 stitches. then make the next stitch in the usual way. This does not replace a stitch. when stitching the next row, when you get to the lump/knot/berry/ move it to which ever side of the work you want itto be on and continue in whatever stitch you are doing: remember it isn't a new stitch, it is just some textural interest. Your stitch count isn't affected by this.

Thank you for all of your help. I've just tried a couple of different methods and so far these are the options I like.
-berry stitch
-modified berry stitch
-double crochet and berry stitch all in the same stitch
If I don't like these hearts I may just surround the heart with berry and fill it in with front post. I'll let you know how it goes.
