Hi! I need help finding some babyish patterns for this group of girls I'm teaching how to crochet. The idea is that they're teens, in a shelter, and they're either pregnant, or have small babies, and want to learn to crochet to be able to make their kids clothes/blankets/etc. Well, I was given a HUGE box of beautiful fingering and sport weight baby yarn, and then, seperately, I was given MANY size K-P hooks... I can't find anything that puts them together. I was trying to find something where you use several strands together, but I was thinking, you'd have to use like 5 at once to get it to work with such thin yarn and big hooks... :( They're beginners, so I hate to make them hold lots of strands together, just because I didn't have any smaller hooks to go with the yarn... Any ideas? I sure could use some suggestions. Thank you!!!!

I sure don't have a clue! But, I do have a couple of extra G hooks, A Boye and a no name, a Susan Bates Bamboo H and a Boye 00(3.25mm) steel hook
if you want them. You know, I think I have your address somewhere.
Anyhoo, how many hooks do you need? And what size? I could probably donate some more, have to go to HL, but I'd be glad to see what I can contribute.

Oh that would be great! :) I was thinking something like E-H sizes. I went today, and saw the girls, and had the first lesson. They already know how to crochet! All this time (since December) I've been told they were beginners, so I had some easy scrunchies to be their projects. It worked out well, because they'd never done anything like that, but they were NOT beginners. They don't read patterns, just learn by sight, or figuring it out themselves. I was so happy to see they knew some already, because now we can move on to making things. Anyway... Several of them already had smaller hooks, but they only live there for a few months (until their baby is born, and maybe a month or two afterwards) so there will be new girls who might want to learn, and need hooks (I think they keep theirs) later. So, it'd be nice to have about 5 or so extra of the size E-H range just to have on hand in case a new girl comes, and needs a hook for the fingering weight yarn. I sure would appreciate it if you have some you're not using.
I think what I'll do, is have them make things with two strands of acrylic, to use the bigger hooks. They are ready for that, so that will be fun to do. :) I'm thinking of teaching them how to make a tote/diaper bag next time. That way, I think there are a couple girls who are not pregnant, and they can make a purse instead of a diaper bag (same pattern, just different use hehe). I'm sooooo excited about this!!! I came away from there just bouncing with ideas of projects to do next time. :) They want us to come once a week if they're not doing something, which will probably really be like 3 or so times each month.
Ok. Done rambling. :)

That is a wonderful thing that you are doing! I have an extra D, F, and G size hook. I know it's not much, but I would be willing to send you them if you think you will need them. PM me if you want to.
