Every time you log in to Crochetville, you'll see new (unread) posts and old (read) posts indicated with certain icons. A dot indicates you have participated (posted) in a given thread.

A forum with new posts: http://www.crochetville.org/forum/images/statusicon/forum_new.gif
A forum with no new posts: http://www.crochetville.org/forum/images/statusicon/forum_old.gif

Thread with new posts: http://www.crochetville.org/forum/images/statusicon/thread_new.gif
Thread in which you have participated with new posts: http://www.crochetville.org/forum/images/statusicon/thread_dot_new.gif
Thread with no new posts: http://www.crochetville.org/forum/images/statusicon/thread.gif
Thread in which you have participated with no new posts: http://www.crochetville.org/forum/images/statusicon/thread_dot.gif
Additionally, if a thread is hot (that is, if it has 30 or more posts) the envelope will be orange instead of blue. So...

Hot thread with new posts: http://www.crochetville.org/forum/images/statusicon/thread_hot_new.gif
Hot thread in which you have participated with new posts: http://www.crochetville.org/forum/images/statusicon/thread_dot_hot_new.gif
Hot thread with no new posts: http://www.crochetville.org/forum/images/statusicon/thread_hot.gif
Hot thread in which you have participated with no new posts: http://www.crochetville.org/forum/images/statusicon/thread_dot_hot.gif
Whenever you click on a thread, the check mark http://www.crochetville.org/forum/images/statusicon/thread_new.gif will disappear http://www.crochetville.org/forum/images/statusicon/thread.gif from the envelope for that thread. However, after reading a thread, you must go back to the forum page for that thread (rather than returning direcly to the home page or elswehere) in order to get the check mark http://www.crochetville.org/forum/images/statusicon/forum_new.gif to disappear http://www.crochetville.org/forum/images/statusicon/forum_old.gif from the forum icon. If you do not return to the forum page for a particular thread, the check mark will still appear on the forum icon, even though there are no new messages in that forum.

Whenever you log in to Crochetville, you begin a session. Every time you view a different page on Crochetville, your session refreshes. If you are inactive (that is, if you do not view any different pages) for more than 20 minutes, your session will time out and all of the messages on the entire board that were marked as unread when you entered will be marked as read. Additonally, if you log out or close all your browser windows, all messages will be marked read.
