so i am on a small vacation right.. told myself no more yarn LOL.. (yeah like i have ever listened to the voice of reason on that one ...) so today my good friend and i have to go to wal mart for some sewing supplies.. and i have to say walmart is satan.... so we are in the sewing section which is oh so convenient to the yarn so i wander.. "just gonna look" i tell myself .. and i came across this wonderful new yarn ..i dont know if any of you have gotten any ..i was told it was brand new.. its red heart symphony... its way soft and furry !! so i contained myself and only bought 2 skeins..so i am hoping my walmart in NC will have it soon cause i can see myself getting addicted to this stuff...anyway .. wanted to share...

Still no luck doing a Google search, though there was mention of it on the live journal crochet community today. Is it kind of like Patons Divine? If so, I'm stalking Wal-marts tomorrow to see it. :))

It does resemble Patons Divine. I think I might just need to make a trip to my Walmarts today... :thinking1

well when i price scanned it .. it told me to consult an associate.. it was THAT new .. barely in the system.. there were only two colours there when i got it as well .. that one .. and another one that was kind of terra cotta ... she said they had just cleared space for it .. she said there were alot more colours ..

oh oh oh my! i went to walmart this morning and she was making room for the new yarns!!

RH also has out a new 'fun fur' type called FOXY!
the only thing, is that it is the exact same price as the others... like 4.50 a skein. :grumpy same size too-tiny

they were also putting out the other and it is just like the divine but 1/2 the price!:woohoo

well, it is 100% acrylic, no mohair like the divine.... makes the price difference.... anyhow.... very very similar.

Rats!!!
Mine didn't have it. In fact, the whole yarn section looked like it had be ravaged by wolves. I think I'm going to have to go farther afield. The one closest to me isn't in the greatest area, so besides not carrying as much stuff, the whole store isn't maintained well (and it's only a few months old!)

sadly the one near me is quite the same ..

i am only hoping they will have it .. and if not i will just get it when i visit home because their walmart is so much better...

the one here is just .. i dont even know how to describe it.. its a super center but the smallest and poorest stocked super center i have ever seen ....

LOL I love your description of the yarn dept being ravaged by wolves. :<> That is how my supercenter typically looks too. :) My smaller walmart usually has a better variety and updates with the new yarns faster. :yay Darn it! DH took the car today. I think he does it to keep me away from the yarn. :D!

Well,
I finally found the Red Heart Symphony at a different Walmart.
In the interest of science, it was my duty to buy a skein (ok, 4) <img border=0 src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/sherlock.gif" />

I like it, I like the colors it comes in. There are a few "buts". I don't think it's worsted weight, it's much thinner. It's closer to sport or even fingerling weight.
I have some Divine here and looking at the two together, you can really see the difference in weight.
<img border=0 src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/ilexmi/yarncompare.jpg" /> The pink is Divine, the purple is the Symphony. Divine is certainly bulkier.

Also it's more fragile than the divine. I'm making a scarf, I didn't like how I started it and when I went to frog it, it broke when I hit a snag and had to give a hard tug.

Final conclusion, it will certainly have a place in my stash, but it's not a direct substitution for Divine.

holly, thanks for the science report. A+
it was well researched and laid out. You have done the yarnie community a great service
:D!

A+ indeed! I'd noticed in the store it looked thinner, but that is good too. You know, it just gives the excuse to buy it when you already have a bunch of the Divine. :wink :pump

Hehehehe,
It was the least I could do!

About the weight, I meant to say it is labeled as worsted weight, I just don't believe it really is. I'm getting ready to go away this weekend (girls weekend, woohooo!!!!) Next week I'll try to do part 2 of the experiment...gauge swatches!

Gosh I thought I was bad.... buying yarn everytime I go somewhere. We have a Walmart about 20 minutes away, a Michaels and AC Moore all about 20 minutes also. Can't seem to stay out of these places. LOL. I have sooo...... much yarn, I can't stand myself. It's all put to good use though. I guess every crochetaholic is the same as far as yarn goes. Especially with all the new yarns coming out. Gotta love it!!!
