View Full Version : Messy yarn?

OK, so I bought my first fancy-schmancy yarn the other day, some gorgeous deep red cotton, and another ball of red string with tinsel and bits of paper sticking off it. I'm thinking of making a scarf by holding the strands together.

Unfortunately, the red cotton twisted into a giant knot! It's the type of yarn that comes in a big oval-shaped hank. Do you guys have any suggestions for how to work with yarn that's wound in that shape? I've only done 2 rows, and I'm guessing I'll probably have to undo it in order to get the knot out.

Thanks,

Katie

Hi Katie!
That kind of yarn has to be rolled into a ball before using or it will turn into a tangly misbehaved yarn mess.

See this thread for some good links on how to wind balls

Many yarn shops will wind it for you if you ask

Thanks, Holly!

There are some great links in the thread you referenced - I especially liked this one (http://www.onceuponapattern.com/custom/pullskein.html) that describes how to wind a ball. OK, tomorrow I'm going to unravel what I crocheted today and try to un-knot this big mess <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/sheepjump.gif" />
