View Full Version : yarn betrayal

I bought the most scrumptious looking yarn on Ebay. It arrived today and I eagerly dug into the package. I marveled at it's beauty. Eight luscious ounces of a cotton rayon 'crunch" yarn hand painted in the most spectacular colors.
Immediately I popped it on my yarn swift and began rolling a ball. I had plans for this yarn! Got myself a nice ball rolled, went to slide it off the tp tube when I lost the pull end. No problem, fished around for a moment and pulled out a nice sized glob of yarn. Hmmmm. Tried again. Another big glob, no end. Shoot! I guess this yarn felt it was too good to be a hat. Or was offended by being rolled on a tp tube. Who knows the thoughts of yarn??? Made one more valiant attempt and suddenly the whole ball disintegrated into a pile of knotted yarn spaghetti

I've been trying to gently coax it back onto the swift and it is having none of that. Every move I make it deftly counters, taunting me. It seems to dare me to cut it.
Why yarn, why do you forsake me??? Why will you not be obedient and good? You will be a special hat, you will warm a cold head. I promise you will be a hat to be envied by all hats. But we must work as a team dear yarn
If you do not change your sorry ways yarn, I shall make a dishcloth out of you!!!

Oh (((Holly))) lol. Even though you had to go through such frustration, your tale of it was very cute. I hope the yarn cooperates from now on.

Did you threaten to sit on it? That helps sometimes. But watch out, I promise you all your hooks will disappear if you are too mean to the yarn. <img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/laugh.gif" />

I fought the yarn and Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii won, I fought the yarn and I won<img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/boxing_2.gif" />
It's in a neat, well behaved ball finally.
It gets better though. I had to go out this evening and left my birdsnest of yarn and the swift with the rest of the yarn on clamped on my desk in the office.
I come home and my 9yr old son immediatly runs up to me "I'msorrymommyitwasanaccident" Hmm..this can't be good.
What happened "I knocked your yarn over"
Little cretin was playing with the swift and collapsed it so the rest of the skein fell off....
All you moms know how hard it is not to laugh when you are MAD (cause he knew he was doing something wrong when he was doing it) but that little lip starts quivering because they are *really* sorry. Then I did it. I asked him that question we all hated to hear when we were kids "What do you think your punishment should be?"
When did I turn into my mother???
Holly
ps, without a word he went and got his wallet and gave me $5
Wooohooo! More yarn!
pps, the skein went back onto the swift ok, thankfully DH & the boy had sense enough to not touch it after it fell off.

That was a good story one I know to be sad but true...I have had more than one skein of yarn turn on me. Worse is when it goes bad in the middle of some project...

it's haunted! Like the haunted painting of that creepy little boy! That's the problem , you've got tainted devil yarn. Don't let it near your other yarn. The best thing you can do is take it to church with you on Sunday. Even better if you pull it out and crochet during the sermon. Devil yarn hates this and you will probably get dirty looks from other worshippers for bringing such an evil presense into their church. Ignore them, they don't have to live with the devil yarn, you do!

yarn can be very mischeivious. They hold many secrets. My friend gave me a box of yarm for christmas. I has been using a skein of it for several days when i pull out more yarn from the middle and a crochet hook popped out. It'd be understandable if one of my hooks accident got stuck it there (i keep them loose at the botton of my bags sometimes) but it wasn't mine.

LOL!
I think it is devil yarn. It really didn't want to be a hat. I tried making a chemo cap out of it and it was having none of that. Since we were going out to dinner tonight at a BYOB place, I figured what the heck, I'd make a wine sweater with it. Now that it was happy to do. Here it is looking all sweet and innocent
<img border=0 src="http://img66.photobucket.com/albums/v201/ilexmi/devil_yarn.jpg" />
And here it is in all it's booze hound glory
<img border=0 src="http://img66.photobucket.com/albums/v201/ilexmi/wine_sweater.jpg" />
It's all single crochet around, same deal as the beer cozy with the top two rows adding in a strand of Fiore fun fur on the top.

Oh, Holly. That's the best yarn yarn I've ever heard!<img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/wink.gif" /> I see the yarn won after all, it looks good as a wine sleeve. Good job!

That story was great!
I have become an expert at detangling yarn, or any kind of string like thing.
Yarn hates me and loves to just have knots and tangles every were.
So I learned the ways to detangling. I have been told more than once its just impossible give up. But I get it! All last year my roommates would bring there knot troubles, one with the never ending tangle of hair things, the other with her own yarn after i taught her some crocheting. Even those pesky knotted by kids shoelaces are no match for my powers...:nana
wow that was conceted!:rofl
