Watch Oprah today? ;)
There are a lot at CPC. Remember they might not say grocery or beach in the title. Even if they're not cotton, you can change it:

This is my favorite beach/grocery bag. It's on the DMC site called: Crochet Butterfly Bag (http://www.dmc-usa.com/mjRS/1/doc/US_freedesigns/crochetbutterflybag.pdf) Not only is it totally functional but it's really cute.

There's a free pattern at sugar'n cream.com (http://www.sugarncream.com/pattern.php?PG=lady&PT=c). It's called the Cottage Bag (http://www.sugarncream.com/pattern.php?PID=2413). This one is cute too. String Bag (http://www.sugarncream.com/pattern.php?PID=133).

I found this one really easy and quick, You could double up the cotton to get the desired thickness
