If you love this site and I know you do or you wouldn't be here or reading this, then we need to do something to help Amy and Donna out. According to another thread they are 3000.00 in debt for this site. They are able to maintain this site monthy, with advertising but not able to get this debt paid off. They want to have an auction, and it sounds like fun, but if we would all just give a dollar or two it would really help to pay off this debt and isn't it worth a dollar to come here and visit with your friends? That is less than one coffee out......so go to the Tip Jar at the top of the page and donate either through paypal or at the bottom of that page is a link to contact Amy for info on sending payment. Like I said, just one dollar.......if we all do it, they will be out of debt and we can come here for FREE......this would be a one time donation..........

I am in no way affliated with either Amy or Donna or Crochetville, I am just a crocheter who loves the friends she has made on this site and wish for it to continue...

:c9 So PLEASE go donate your dollar, PLEASE:cheer :cheer You will be rewarded in the long run.......:clap

It will only take a dollar if everyone would give that much then Crochetville will be out of the RED!!!!! Please I know you can afford a dollar, you own a computer and pay a ISP, so get the most for your money and keep Crochetville open for all. It is a very giving site, I have seen how many have given squares for others, and it also is a very helping site, if you have any problem not just crochet, you can come here and get advice or comfort, so lets keep the site going by getting them out of the RED. It really is all of our site and we want it to be here when we log onto the computer...
So go to the tip jar and donate a 1.00 if you don't have paypal at the bottom of the page is a way to get in contact with Amy and you can send in a donation,
Thanks so much

Y'all are so sweet! Donna and I just love hearing how much Crochetville means to all of you. We are so appreciative of those of you who can make small donations, and we're just as appreciative of those who can't make a donation now for whatever reason that may be.

Since it's been asked in this thread (the info is also on the Tip Jar page), yes, you can send in checks or money orders. Just send me a PM and I'll give you my mailing address. Crochetville's bank is about 2 miles from my house, and I have to go past it to go pretty much anywhere into town. Just be sure to make checks/money orders payable to Crochetville LLC and not me personally, because any donations are deposited into our official business account.

It will definitely relieve a major burden to get those back expenses of $3,000 all paid off. And as Donna said elsewhere, should we make more than that from the auction and donations, we have some extras we want to add to the forum. Those extras will cost money first for the software, then they'll eventually add quite a bit to our monthly bandwidth usage. But it will be worth it!!

I agree with "Lynned1952" on paying so much for a magazine subscription as opposed to all the really neat patterns here on the 'Ville. Plus how many times have you received your crochet magazine in the mail only to be disappointed that there aren't that many patterns in there that you like:( . P.S. This is a great post.

It reminded me that it takes time and money to run a site well. I've done my part - what I need to do is realize that this is an ongoing commitment and remember to donate on a regular basis. Every bit helps!

As a Canadian, this message board has helped me connect with a number of people who share the love of crochet. Although I live in a big city, it's difficult to find people nearby who feel the same way about the craft as I do.

Thanks.

Since a couple people have mentioned it, I guess I can let you know that as of right now, donations equal about 12% of the total debt load.

Donna and I cannot thank everyone enough for their efforts to help us pull out from under this burden so we can begin operating completely in the black from henceforth on.

We greatly appreciate those of you who are encouraging others with some disposable funds to help out.

I want to make sure that those who can't or don't want to donate for whatever reason don't feel guilty, upset, sad, or anything else that they can't contribute right now. We're not keeping track of who's submitted donations, other than to send each person a personalized thank-you note. So please don't feel pressured in any way to make a donation if you're unable to or not comfortable doing so.

There are definitely ways to contribute to this site other than financially, the most important being the ways we all encourage, support, and inspire each other to keep developing our crochet skills! :)

I made a donation...did you? Like someone said near the beginning of this thread, a small donation ($1-$5) is less than a single crochet magazine and a lot less than a subscription to your favorite crochet magazine, and less than a crochet pattern! Stop reading--but only for as long as it takes to Paypal or to send in your donation--and get back to these great boards!!

How many members are there her now anyway? Maybe it would cut even...

You can see the number of members by going to the main Crochetville page and scrolling down until you see the list of who's online. As of right now, a total of 12,835 have registered for Crochetville over the years. Of that number, 6,689 are considered active, which means they've logged on to the forum at least once in the past 6 months. We average over 1,000 different people logging on each day.

This is according to the bottom of the home page...and you are right, if even 1/2 of the active members sent in a $1.00, they would be out of debt.....that is why I said a $1.00 and it seems so little to keep this site going. Here is what is on the home page:

Members: 12,835, Active Members: 6,689

Depending what kind of account you have Paypal does take a small bit, I don't remember the percentage exactly. If you're only donating a dollar or two just add on the amount you would spend for a stamp and that should cover it. If your going to donate more then it might be worth it to send it.

Paypal charges fees for each transaction, so no, we don't get to keep the full amount when you pay through Paypal. The fees vary depending on the type of payment (credit card vs transfer from paypal or bank account), as it's not just a straight percentage of the actual amount donated. I'm sure you can go to the Paypal site and see what their fee structure is.

When you pay via credit card, the credit card company gets their share of fees (2-4%, I can't remember exactly, may depend on type of card) on top of the fees charged by Paypal.

Just as an FYI, whenever you pay anywhere via credit card, a percentage of the order total goes to the credit card company, reducing the profit the store gets from your order.

Another way to support the Ville is through the Google ads. Look down at the bottom of the page. See the ads? Take a moment. If you see something you are interested in, click on it and go see. They will be paid for you clicking on that ad. HOWEVER (and this is important), do NOT just click on ads over and over and over again, because clicking on ads just for money (or a lot of clicks on the same day from the same computer) is considered 'click fraud.' At the best, they won't get any money from it. At the worst, they might get in trouble and have their ad account suspended.

I know that whenever I actually look, I see something that's interesting to me, and if going to that site through that link will help out, why not?

JoAnn, I emailed PayPal last night asking how much of my dollar would go to the Ville. Will let everyone know IF and when I get an answer.

Looks like we're getting some good info on here about paying with cc and clicking on Google ads, etc. Thanks!

We all want to maximize our "tips" to the Ville!

WOW didn't know that and you're right, there are some interesting ads....I'll do my part and check out a couple of ads every day! Anything to help maintain Crochetville and help out Amy, Donna and et.al....

Is there anyway to see a remaining balance or to show a running balance as people donate?? I agree with Vonnie, if everyone would just donate a single dollar, they would have enough $$ to get out of the red AND have some to put aside for the site...

While having every member donate a single dollar is a wonderful thought, I don't think it will ever happen! :) And that's perfectly okay. There are some who aren't able to or don't want to donate, and they shouldn't be made to feel pressured to donate or to feel bad for not donating, for whatever reason.

I don't think we can keep up with a "live" running balance, but if people really want to keep up with how we're progressing, I can provide updates from time to time. You may need to remind me, though, whenever you're waiting for another update.

I just checked, and so far you wonderful members have donated 20% of the $3,000 back expenses! Donna and I truly thank you from the bottom of our hearts. By the time the auction is over in August, we are confident that we'll have raised the full $3,000!

We do have plans on features we'd like to add to the site, but some of the features cost money to implement, and they all will heavily increase our bandwidth usage, thus heavily increasing our server costs. So any money we make over that $3,000 isn't going to sit around idle for very long! (Not to mention we'll need to pay a tax accountant to figure our business taxes at the end of the year, at least for the first year, to make sure we have everything set up properly.)

Amy...I'm one of those "on a very fixed budget" so I can understand not wanting to pressure anyone!! Thank You for the update!!!

I don't have exact figures for the cash donations I've received (all that data is at home, and I'm on vacation at the beach!), but I'll estimate what I think the cash donations were.

After taking Paypal fees into account, the total amount of money we've received via donations as a result of this thread is 24.87% of our debt load.

We still have a ways to go to be operating completely in the black from this point forward, but I'm very confident that with continued donations and the results of the auction (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=52059)by mid-August, we'll definitely be in the black.

So far, I've received about 50 requests for my mailing address from people who want to donate to the auction! I'll be sending my address out to everyone this Sunday or Monday. (Monday is the first date on which people can start mailing out there stuff. It depends on how quickly I can get online and send all the messages after I get back home very late tomorrow night.)

I have not visited for quite a while, but as the summer season winds down, I find myself rummaging through the yarn stashes again...looking at what is there, thinking about what it will become, looking for patterns and ideas. Which brings me back to these forums. :)

Thanks for being here and for all you do. I've sent my donation with the hope it helps keep these forums happy and healthy for a long time to come.

We sure do accept Paypal. :) If you ever feel like making a donation, just click on the "Donations" link in the dark blue navigation bar at the top of any Crochetville forum page. You'll be taken to a page that gives you all the details about donating.

Got r done! So glad you accept PP. Now, to just remember to remember to do this every now and again. This site is a godsend and I am so glad to have stumbled upon it.

We are going to do a Craft-a-roo at my home next month. So many of my sisters (spiritual) talk about getting together to do our thing (whatever craft that may be), so I started organizing it last weekend. We are looking a third weekend in November. I am excited. I will definitely share this website with them.

Thank YOU for doing what you do. :hug

Vonnie,

Thank you for suggestion to support Crochetville, I too spend lots of times reading, learning and knowing talented crocheters here. I made donation on late march, I am planning to do more in near future. As you mentioned, little donations supports more than we think.

I dont remember reading about auction, which thread I should be looking?

This is a fabulous venue for people from all over the world to share their knowledge, their latest yarn/crochet finds, the items they are either working on or have completed, the fun things and the trials in our lives, etc.

I've made a promise to myself ... a monthly donation to Crochetville.org ... I appreciate not only Amy & Donna for hosting this site, but also the wonderful people I've met and am yet meeting!

So, here's my challenge ... if you can ... please join me in supporting Crochetville.org ... whether monthly, annually, or when you can ... we all benefit from this wonderful site.

Hugs ~ Nevie
