Well I am makeing the round ripple in thread, size 10, hook size 7 and it is takeing forever!!! I have used three full balls of Traditions in white with 5 rows of beige mixed in, it is only about 30" across. I have one more ball of white left and hopefully enough beige for one more row. I would post a picture but can't while I am on the road......so help me finish this last ball of thread and I think I will try and put beads around the outside then when I get home I will take a picture and show you how a round ripple looks in thread......I think I am on row 54 don't know how many a round ripple afghan has but it seems to take forever to get around it now.....

You can do it. I started a round ripple in thread to match a round ripple ghan I made for my best friend/sister, but it is on hold right now. I have too many ghans to make before I can get back to the thread one. I do pick it up every once in a while and do a round or two. I haven't decided how big I will make my thread one. Can't wait to see yours.

YOU CAN DO IT :clap:clap

Well, I ran out of thread, and it is only 36" diameter. I used, approx, 1800 yds of thread so far. 4 full balls of traditions white at 400 yds a ball and then I added beige every 11 rows for 1 row. I was going to stop but if I can find a few more balls of white that looks like it will match then I am going to do at least another set of rows and get it to around 40". I can't get anymore thread until I get back to OR as the town I am in now isn't big enough to have a yarn store.....soooooo the saga goes on, I will keep you posted and add pictures when I get home. Thanks for the encouragement.

Here it is on the steering wheel table...I think it needs to be longer and maybe with some beads?????

do you like the white with beige???

What a beautiful job! The thread really brings out the 3D effect (at least on the bed I saw it). I'm on the "no beads" side.

May 18th, 2007, 03:46 PM
As it is now, I have used 4 full balls @ 400 yds each for the white and about 1/2 one of beige....so at least 1800 yds. I am waiting on more thread, I want another 12 rows or so, I want it a little longer on the steering wheel. It really came out better than I thought it would. I am going to try the beads (hey I am an old lady who likes beads) and can always take them back off if I don't like the way they look. I can't decide if I want to try seed beads and then put a bigger bead on the points....I am going to experiment and see what I like. But I have to wait for the new thread to come in, and also have to do my SWAP.....YEAH!!!! first.... I will post more pictures after I finish it....
Thanks for the nice compliments, that is why I love this site,,,,,,,all the nice warm feeling you get for people who appreciate all your hard work.....

Vonnie, that is gorgeous. You have done a fantastic job on it. :clap:clap
Thanks for sharing this with us.

Now I hope that mine (that is on hold for now) turns out as pretty as yours. Then again, mine probably won't end up being that big. I am doing mine to match a round ripple ghan that I will be sending to my sister/best friend. It will probably end up being a really big doily!! She has 4 cats and they would see that as a great toy if I made it as a tablecloth!

you just gave me an idea to make a thread round ripple to set my Christmas tree stand on next year ... I have LOTS of the Bernat handicrafter variegated thread that I bought on sale several years ago and have yet to complete anything with it!!

I love the way your RR turned out, looks great on the table.

I can't wait to get home and see if the rest of my thread has arrived, I am really anxious to finish this up. I really think it needs to be a little bigger. I have decided not to add beads, I think it would distract from the tabletopper.......I think Christmas colors would look great, maybe I will make another one......blue/white......red/green/white ??? The choices are endless.....I am beginning to love this pattern and I wasn't sure at first, might have to try another rr afghan...Thanks to all for the nice compliments and comments...I will post updated pictures when it is done.

OK, I got more thread same brand but it seems thicker. I am going to try a couple of rounds and see how it looks......I am so dissappointed in the thread, I was really wanting to make this bigger.......pictures are on post 16......I will repost if I do get to make bigger.......

:bow I bow to a master craftsman when I see one! This is just outstanding! Too bad you didn't travel through Charlotte NC! I just purchased a cone of white thread that weighs 20 pounds! It is HUGE! LOL I have begun to change all patterns into thread patterns and do mostly baby dresses in threads. I am doing one in ECRU right now using a 9 pound cone... I have the purse to tote it too! So next time you are in NC and need white thread.. stop on by!

A Big Thank You :hug to Dreamsofyarn for sending me enough :yarn to finish this...OK pixs:

And now finished: Can't show it on the steering wheel table because Motorhome is in the shop, but you get the idea of size:

http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u128/vonn1e/th_IM001590.jpg (http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u128/vonn1e/IM001590.jpg)

This was made with about 12 balls of size 10 DMC traditions Thread. Size 7 hook, it is just the same Round Ripple you have been making in yarn only I used thread.....it is approx 51" across...I put a shell edging on it.....

Hope you enjoy the pixs and again THANKS for all the encouragement:manyheart

Vonnie, that is absolutely jaw dropping gorgeous. 51 inches in thread....that boggles my mind. I don't know if I would have the patience for one that big in thread.
The one I just finished in thread is about 26 inches. I found out from my best friend's husband that he is buying her a small round end table, gave me the size of it, and this is what this one will be for. I can't wait to give it to her when I go to see her Wednesday.

Yours is just stunning. Great job on it :clap:clap:clap:clap

I salute your patience. It is a truly beautiful round ripple. I have made one in thread myself, but it was a small one, meant for a small table. I would never attempt one this big, because I know I would never manage to finish it.

That is so neat. I wish our steering wheel would go flat so I could do something like this. I am working on my ripple now with the #30 threads in alot of colors. It is slowly growing.
