If anyone wants to help with the Thailand tsunami relief fund here is a great charity to check into. Make a scrubbie (details on website) send it in, they sell them for $10.00 a piece and donate all proceeds to Unicef. How simple is that?

Please check it out:

To help you out, here is the pattern for the star (hexagon) scrubbie:

Enjoy!

Here is the link for the pattern (I called it a hexagon, cause that is what it looks like to me....but on the link it is the Star-1 (http://www.jimsyldesign.com/~dishbout/cpatterns/crochet.html) -- follow the link to happy dishcloths).

I'm not sure if the yahoo-group is limited to people in the area or not. I'm sure they would let anyone join, because they crochet for various charities -- but they do get together to crochet for those that are near by. It would be worth contacting them to find out, if you are interested. They have I think 65 members already and I'm sure they would love to grow!

I'm glad that so many are interested in this project. It makes me happy to contribute to something that seems so simple and yet has such far reaching affects. Thank you for all the interest!!!! :ghug

I love making dishcloths, but here is one concern I have. How many dishcloths are they going to sell for at least $10? It doesn't matter how many are made, if they do not sell. Is it just me, or is that alot for 1 dishcloth? I understand people will pay more for something when it is for a charity.

Just wondering. We want the charity to really benefit from a project.

The scrubbie project does have a page that updates readers on the success of the project. To date they have raised close to $1,500.00 from the sale of scrubbies. That is pretty "dang" good, in my book. They also have a couple of retailers in their area that carry the scrubbies for them and they go to fairs, auctions, flea markets, etc. to help promote the cause.

People are also encouraged to promote it in their own hometowns. The more something is talked about the better. I understand your concern, Shari, and charity donations are really a personal choice. I simple feel really good about this one and wanted to share. Feel free to email them at www.scrubbie@raincircle.com (http://www.scrubbie@raincircle.com/) if you have any concerns about the future success of the project.

In the end, unless you are the one incharge of or working directly with the charity, once you donate to any charity, it is out of your hands. Just feel good that you did something for someone else with pure intension.

As far as $10.00 for a scrubbie goes. Yeah, if you were buy it it would be a lot! but you aren't buying a scrubbie, you are making a donation to a charity (i.e UNICEF) and in return for that donation you are getting a scrubbie, basically for .60 cents (the cost of mailing it out).

Thank you for helping me know how well it is all going. That sounds great. As far as I know, there is not a local chapter participating, so I may see about shipping them up there.

Thanks again,

DawnRays,

Is the Yahoo-group you are talking about "Yarn Over Nashville"? There were 3 of us who used to meet at "Panera Bread" the first Tuesday of every month. We tried to enlist others but with little success. It would be great if this group has grown to 65 or so.:clap

Where in Middle TN do you live?

I think this project is a great one!

Wow, you guys are doing great! I know that they will appreciate everyone of them.

Nashville Crocheter yours look great--I love the red one;)

tnlefty: the yahoo group is in California. They get together and pick a charity each year and knit/crochet for that one charity for the whole year and promote it as they can. I live in Manchester which is between Nashville and Chatanooga. NashvilleCrocheter has a group that meets and gets together up your way, maybe she could give you details. I feel like I'm out in the sticks here. I'm glad you've taken an interest in this project though.:yay

I finished my 10 scrubbie goal that I set for myself and I mailed them off today. Check out my blog if you want to see a photo of the completed Citrus Collection.

Thanks for sharing the pattern! I had been looking for something a little different from the same old square and circle patterns, I also love the colors you choose! Very Spring-like!

Yeah they're not really round:blush , I've been using a larger hook and they have a more open weave and seem a little softer(for wiping little faces and hands).

here are 2 more dishcloths I make for the String Scrubbie Project. I have made 5 so far and will mail them all out next week.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/myprojects1/2moredishcloths.jpg

I put them on some newspaper so there would be a contrast. They are so close in color to the chair I put them on to take a picture. :)
