Welcome to the new Sky CAL

The purpose of this group is to get all those UFO’s completed and get more organized .

We will work on a point system , one month at a time .

Each month, we will start with a clean slate and clear all points awarded for the past month .

The winner of the first month will receive a small item as a prize (price $ 2- $ 3 )

If you are the winner for that month, it will be up to you to send a prize to the winner of the next month, etc. That way, one person will not have to send all prizes .

What you work on each day will be your decision .As long as you are working on ANY project, you will get points for that day, based on the scale below .

Good luck and have fun !

Point System

One point a day for POSTING .

One point a day if you answer the question of the day .

One point for each small granny square .

One point for each row or round completed on a medium project ,such as a baby afghan, shawl or sweater .

One point a day for keeping and WRITING in a crochet journal .

One point for each separate Photo you share on Photo Friday.

Rainbow points- if you are making a scrap project, one point for each color used on it that week .

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~
Five points for each row on an adult sized afghan .
Five points - Small items completed (dishcloths ,squares over 5 rounds ,small toys, hats ,scarves ,etc )
Five points if get a thank you in the mail from someone you made an item for .
Five points for a Flat Stanley Photo
( a photo of you crocheting in an unusual spot )
5 points if you change your avatar weekly, based on the theme that week. The new theme will be announced on Friday.
You also get an extra 5 bonus points each time you change your avatar again during the week, as long as it is still in the theme we are going with that week. You can only get points for one change a day , though .
Five points if you recruit a new member to join the group .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~
Ten points for a preemie afghan completed .

Ten points if you give the item to someone and have a photo of them WITH the item .

Ten points if you design a new pattern to share .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
25 points for a completed afghan .
Added Bonus points – Each morning, I’ll choose a secret post number for the day . Whoever posts on that number will get 5 bonus points .
Each morning I will also write down a color of yarn. If that is the color you are using that day you get 5 bonus points.
****New & Improved ******
THE DEAD ZONE
-- if you pick ONE HOUR A DAY as your CROCHET hour-- that means no cleaning, cooking,laundry, or POSTING in here -- and dedicate that one hour to CROCHET -- give yourself 5 bonus points for that hour.
Morning Judy
Wendy Yes, I have signed up for both. I'm just waiting on the yellow fabric to arrive today, hopefully, to start Hawaiian. I have a hand dyed piece of dark blue fabric with pink and purple undertones for Celtic Mystery. (it looks like the night sky).
Here is a picture of it.
Cara - Hope you feel better, congrats on the 5000 posts and anniversay. I just passed my 1000 post...
Pauline - Wow wicked weather you're having. We are having a Winter Snow Storm, supposed to be up to 6 inches by morning....
Wendy - Hope Emma is doing better...
Judy - Way to go!! I started that without planning to, was trying to reorganize and realized I needed to see what was in basement totes. Well 3 hours later, finally came up for dinner (I came up to warm self twice, cuz it was cold down there) Got a pretty good handle on things, but probably need about 3 more hours of work. Man have I got alot of yarn!!!
Ladies got to tell you about the best things ever. I found these Ziploc Big Bags. Now I've got lots of totes, but these bags are see through with handles and you can write on them. I can pretty much put all the yarn needed for a project inside each one. They are sooo cool, but only come 4 to a box. I'll take a pic of one tomorrow.
Finshed all blocks on Vanna ghan, now just need to do border and done...Good night ladies and those ahead of us:
Happy New Year!!!:yay:yay:yay
Hi Jeannie, Have a good night!
Wendy No I don't use aida for these cause they have specialty stitches in them. This piece is Jobelan 28ct hand dyed called Midnight Crackle.
Aussie
December 31, 2007, 02:14 AM
Tammy those ziplock bags sound like a great idea, at least you can then see whats in them.
Jeannie hows it going, what project are you working on at the moment.
Pauline 28ct isnt that really small stitches, I know I used 12 count and thought that was small enough. Does it still have the holes or not.
Its really hot here the air conditioner is finding it hard to keep up with it. I have been watching movies on the Hallmark channel and doing the round ripple, then the cat decides to lay on top of my ripple which is on my lap so boy after the movie finished I was so hot.
It would be interesting to see how long before its 2008 for everyone. So do you want to put how many hours are left in your message so we can see how many hours you have to go. It would be like a Ville countdown for each country or state.
7 hours till 2008 here.
Carousel
December 31, 2007, 02:35 AM
Wendy It is an evenweave and there are holes. There are 28 holes to the inch. I stitch over two threads in both directions so that makes 14 stitches to the inch.
Count down 7 1/2 hours to 2008
Pauline I hadnt heard of the mystery cross stitch group before. It sounds great, have fun with it wont you and show us pics of your progress. I think last year I stayed up for New Years but didnt have anyone to say Happy New Year to as everyone here was in bed by then. If I can stay awake I might watch the fireworks on tv that they show from Sydney and from whoever celebrates New Years next.
Julie wow big celebrations next month. Are you going to have a party.
We don't have a garage. That's the next thing we have to work on :yes But I do have an attic that's just under 850 sq ft with 9 ft ceilings. Cara, that's a great big attic! Go for it, girl! BD will wonder where the real Cara went when you ask him for help putting things away!:lol
Yep, that attic is the thing that sold BD on this house. For me it was the bathroom. It's a really nice bathroom :D Of course, BD wanted to turn the attic into a "guy's room" but we all know how that ended....it's Cara Storage :devil
Do you find yourself saying things like "I can't throw that out! I can use that some day!" or "With a little work I can turn that old toilet into a lamp!"? That's the kind of thing that hold me back :lol
It's either that thought or I have something with sentimental value...THAT is probably the biggest reason. Of course, now I also have yarn I can't bear to part with...:lol
I'll be moving into the next decade also...turning 40 in August... I really don't look as old as I am. Most people think I'm in my early-mid thirties, but man my body is starting to feel the age (it's the arthritis - runs in family) I'm also short and alot of people equate age with height....oh well..
Starting to yawn, but not ready to go back to bed yet. May go crochet on couch, but it's cold out there. Hubby says we have about an inch of snow right now...
I, too, am a "packrat" That also runs in the family. My aunt is probably the worst. About 10-15 years ago, we all went to help her move and literally she had paths in her house through the immense piles of junk!!! I will never get that bad. But I'm also a teacher and I always look at things as "How can I use that in the classroom?"
Cara wow that must be nice to have a attic, all that room for your yarn. When I watch movies all the houses seem to have basements and attics, is that true or was that just the movies.
Judy have a great day.
Tammy have fun doing some crochet or having a nap, whichever comes first I guess.
I have been doing some of my waves of color purse tonight. the pattern is quite easy. I cant wait to finish it so I can see how the felting will go.
Emma is feeling a lot better today and tonight she asked if I could teach her how to crochet. Do you know how hard it is to be left handed and show another lefthanded person how to crochet righthanded. Boy oh boy, its not easy. I have left her to get used to making chains. Tomorrow I will try to show her how to make the double crochet stitches.
Have her sit on a stool in front of you. I'm left handed but Momma was right handed. That's how she taught me and it worked like a charm :yes
Older houses have attics around here but a basement is a very rare thing indeed. Basements are more common in the northern states it seems. New construction in Texas only has a little crawl space for an attic but I think our house was meant to have a second floor added to it that just never got done. And the house was built in 1925...and I thought BD was a procrastinator :rofl
It's the same for most of us. We leave this world the same way we came in.......diapered, no teeth & in a hospital. Sad but true. :(
My Mom (a retired nurse) used to say thet pediatrics and geriatrics were the same except the size of the patient was different. When she was training to be a nurse she thought she would like to work in pediatrics and years later she was working in a nursing home instead (not many pediatric units in small town hospitals :lol )
Yeah, but Cara's gonna be one of them sweet ol' grannies that gives the neighborhood kids cookies. Julies? Well, she's gonna be sorta like Momma's House... housecoat and hollerin'..... ;)
I am most likely to be like Aunt Bethany from the movie National Lampoons Christmas vactaion - the mixed up befuddled little ol lady (sometimes I'm not too far from being like that and I'm only 42 :lol )
Pauline - Wow wicked weather you're having. We are having a Winter Snow Storm, supposed to be up to 6 inches by morning....
Man alive we have had soooo much snow in the northeast this year! We had two snowstorms go through here (one last Thursday and another on Saturday morning). It's snowing again and there is another storm coming on Tuesday... Saturdays storm left about 4-5 inches of snow and this one might have 5-8 inches. I'll post a few pictures later.
Honestly, can't even imagine it getting better! I always thought it was cliche when folks said "life begins at 40" but not anymore! At 40 I finally felt grown up enough to act like a kid. Those of you that have hit that point know what I mean :wink It's just that you finally get over what everyone else thinks of you and just allow yourself to be you :manyheart Best feeling in the world :yay
Amen to that :D I know this feeling and I love it :devil
Cara wow that must be nice to have a attic, all that room for your yarn. When I watch movies all the houses seem to have basements and attics, is that true or was that just the movies.
We had a huge attic (for storage) when I was growing up. When we buy a house an attic and basement are on my list of things a house must have. Usually attics are for storage since they are not well insulated (especially in older houses).
:yay HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone :yay
Morning Cara. I just got all caught up from last night. :D
I have the extra girls here today. Already we have had some arguing. We were trying to see who knew how to play Trouble the best. They all know the rules about the same but try telling a 6 and 7 year old that. :rolleyes
Tonight we are heading over to a friends for the new year. If I had my way I'd just head to bed myself. I know it's not normal for someone my age to think like that. But I sure do like my sleep :lol Mike says I act older than a 90 year old most days. :lol
Anyway, I'm trying to think of a good portable project to bring with me. The only WIPs I have right now are my PS and the filet scarf I'm working on. I can't bring the scarf because I have no ink to print the pattern up. I'm thinking of maybe bringing some boucle yarn and my size 15 needles and maybe making a scarf like Julie. Just doing the garter stitch with it. I have two and a half things of it. If nothing else I can make a scarf for a child. :shrug If anyone else has any ideas it might help me decide what to work on.
One advantage - the snow has to be cleared off the cars on a regular basis and it is a good upper body workout :lol :devil They are now saying between 7 and 12 inches of snow will come down before the day is done. Makes me glad we don't have plans to do much this evening. We are going out for supper but we can walk there and we will get some wine to toast in the New Year at midnight (I'll have to take a nap in the afternoon to be able to stay up that late :lol )
Morning folks and happy new year to those who have already arrived ! I saw the photo on the news a little bit ago of the fireworks in Australia at that big building over there, Wendy-- the one with the roof like a seashell ? I forget what it is .. an opera house ???
Anyhow, as for ages, I agree with you ladies-- when you get to a certain age, you don't care anymore about what others think of you - the pressure is off . You actually feel comfortable in your own skin and like yourself, whether anyone else likes you or not . :yes
And Krystal- I'm trying to figure out what old lady I'll act like when I get a little older -- gotta be somebody really mouthy .I wouldn't be mean to the neighbor kids , but I probably wouldnt want any of them in my yard . I kinda like my quiet most days .
I hope I'm still ALERT and my brain is still on high gear . I can't think of anyone at the moment that I 'd be like --- maybe a cross between some of them characters Eddie Murphy does in the Klunk family-- I like some of them old ladies-- FUNNY !!!
Jeannie and Tammy-Where did you find the motivation to get organized? I need to do it, but I'd rather be stitchin'.:)
Pauline-That Jobelan fabric is very pretty. Good luck with your Mystery XS Project. Happy New Year!
Wendy-Happy New Year! Great news that Emma is feeling better and she wants to crochet.
Heather-What'd you buy on your yarn shopping spree?
Cara-Hope you get over your cough soon.
Julie-50's not old, just impressive.
Tammy-My Grandma was that way. When I was a kid, I could get lost walking through the mazes of stuff on the way to the bathroom. If you asked her about why she had so much stuff, she'd lecture you on the Great Depression.
Karen-That's a lot of snow. Looks like great crocheting weather.
Donna-Hi. No ideas here. Haven't had any coffee yet. But a boucle yarn scarf sounds nice.
atHBa-Hello. How are you doing today?
Tabby-Those are pretty snow pictures.
I've always acted like I'm about 7. It's always gotten me in trouble, but it's more fun that way!
...and I never make New Years, midnight - at least not unless my neighbors make a racket and wake me up!:lol:lol
Are we your neighbors? We let the kids go out on the front lawn (wake them at 11:45) and bang on pots and pans yelling "Happy New Year"!
Hey V, I have missed seeing you on here. Sounds like you had a good Christmas. I don't have very many WIPs either :no We will really have to try and fix that won't we :devil
Pauline, good morning. Hope your new year is going well so far.
Hi there Karen. No big plans tonight. All four of us are heading over to a friends house to ring in the new year. Your plans sound like a nice relaxing night and day tomorrow.
I think I've decided on bringing my PS with me to our friends house. I was hoping for somehting a little more portable but this will have to do since I don't have anything started and I sort of want something that doesn't take too much concentration.
Pauline~I didn't say that I had started them yet....although that is probably the best thing to do. But I do need a break from doing what I must and do what I want.
we are not doing anything tonight. Both my DH and I work in the morning so we will be to be early. DH works untill 6:30-7pm so we won't even have a nice supper. it will be just another evening here.
Welcome back, Miss V !
We missed you. I was just wondering about you today and remembering that you hadnt been here in awhile -- you must do something to remedy that "no projects" situation ...
Sounds like you have the yarn, so that aint the problem .
Krystal16
December 31, 2007, 05:26 PM
ill try real hard to get some more projects going. mantoy has asked that i try to "tone down" the stash some. he thinks its odd that i have so much yarn , yet keep buying more. ( any one got stash pictures to share????)
i hope everyone had/has a good holiday!
Uh, yeah... it's somewhere in the stashbusting CAL. I'll see if I can find it for you to share with Mantoy - wait a minute... I posted some HERE a couple weeks back...
Happy New Year to you all.:yay:yay:hug
Tabby nice photos, I love seeing the snow photos from all of you.
Pauline morning to you, I made it to just after 12 then I went to bed. Not doing anything here today as its another hot one. You can fry an egg on the pavement its that hot. Has the weather toned down there yet or is the cyclone still around.
Shelly Im glad you have internet back, you sure dont realise how much you use it till its gone.
Karen sounds like a great way to bring in the new year. Have fun.
Athba Happy New Year to you.:yay
V howdy there, Its great to see you. I have a big stash too and everytime I say Im going to buy some yarn DH says but you have heaps here, but then I say yeah but its not what I want for this project.
Im going to try and get my waves of color bag finished today.
I'm trying to guilt BD into going to get tamales. They were out the other day. So far, no go :lol Guess it'll be chili for dinner and trying to get some stuff ready to update my seriously neglected web site :blush No rest for the wicked as they say :D
Cara, that is wonderful the BD is going to get you some tamales.
Wendy Coco looks so content. I love that picture too.
I just found out I have to go grab some scarves and a jacket for Maddie. It's supposed to get to freezing tonight and won't get much warmer then 30 or 40 all day tomorrow. At least we get to wear our scarves though. :D It's supposed to last through Thursday I guess.
I'll be careful. The only time I go outside is to take boys to work or collect them and then I use the back streets any way. I don't like driving at this time of year as is but with the weather too. No way.
Hope your weather improves. The air conditioners don't like it either, I know mine struggles most years when it gets over 35c.
Yeah with this heat the airconditioners do have to work hard, its a wonder we havent had any blackouts yet. I remember in 2006 we had a blackout on a 40C day and it lasted for 17 hours. We lost all our food and it took 2 mths for ETSA to reimburse us for the loss of food.
Have fun with the cross stitch. so how does it work, do they give you so many stitches a month to do, or a section to work on. Did you have a sneek peek at the picture, it sure looks nice.
And Wendy, don't worry about felting the bag - it will be fine! Just stuff it and let it air dry after washing so it doesn't shrink too much. The washing will make the stitches lock together well enough so you won't need to line it.
V - Here's my special recipe for black eyed peas
Step One: Grab a can opener. Manual or electric, your choice.
Step Two: Grab a can of Bush's Black Eyed Peas with Snaps
Step Three: Open can with can opener. Watch the edges. They're sharp!
Step Four: Heat til hot
There. That's just for you now. Don't go spreading that around! :2nono
Looks like everyone is enjoying New Year's Eve. I have two handles to sew on another fun fur bag that I've made for SD while she's been at her grandma's for the holidays. Snuck in that project over the last 3 days. SD will be home tomorrow evening and the bag will be under the tree for her.
The silver shawl for my niece is getting longer, I have about 40 inches done on it so far. It's the "sterling" color of Lion Microspun. I love the drape of that yarn.
Son #2 drove off to Richmond for a party, so he's got to be feeling better! He called to say that one of his stitches popped, and I haven't heard from him since, he was going to call the emergency dentist ...
Winston is so programmed that 10pm is bedtime ... he came and woofed at us about 10:10 as if to say "please lock me in my crate." So we said "nite nite" and off he trotted. He hasn't figured out that we closed the crate door, but didn't latch it just yet! :lol
My new year's resolution is to finally lose "the last 20 pounds" ... I did WW last year, so now I've joined the fitness center at the hospital I work for. I've plateaued for too long, so I know I have to increase the exercise, and this was the best way to do it.
Hubby has made us each a nice big mug of hot cocoa (mine has Splenda :yes), so back to the living room I go. Have a great rest of your evening, everyone, and I'll see you in 2008. :hug
Morning all and happy 2008 !
To those of you that think you have clutter- I'll pass along this little story -
My parents sold their house last fall and moved to Florida after living up here all their married lives . They LOVED garage sales and went to them constantly . Not because they NEEDED anything, but it became their hobby, i guess you'd say .
Well, when they decided to move away ,the knew they had to get rid of all that JUNQUE-- I'll use Kathy's word .
I went down several times to help them weed out what to get rid of. They had decided to hire an auctionierre and sell almost everything .
I have never in all my days seen the crap that they had . They have been married now for almost 53 years . They had actually kept every check written since then, every receipt since then. They had papers from their Kelvinator refrigerator from 1962 ....my mom must have owned more shoes than any store in New York city .
My dad owned 87 shirts ( he counted ) ,he had ties, belts, and enough underwear still unopened that he could have sent it to the US troops in Iraq for spares. ( My mom bought it everytime it was on sale so he'd never run out )
She had hats,purses,you name it, every DOODAD that a 70-something lady would ever want or need .
So, the first day I go down,my mom sends me into the bedroom to "help" my dad, since he wanted to keep all his stuff and she told him no, so she thought if I went in, I could talk him into getting rid of some of this stuff .
I took a YARD SIZED trash bag in . ( I am the exct OPPOSITE of a packrat-- I HATE clutter )
Now, you may think this next line is a lie, but it is the absolute truth : I found THREE SETS of FALSE TEETH in baggies in their dresser .
I quickly checked my dad's mouth- Yep, he had his teeth in .
Went to the kitchen-- yep, my mom had hers .
I said WHERE IN THE WORLD DID ALL THESE TEETH COME FROM ?????
To make a long story short, it was pairs they had gotten and "didn't fit right " . Rather than toss them out or take them back to the dentist to see if he could do something with them, they put them in baggies in their dresser .
GOOD GRIEF .
By the way, they rented a storage shed to keep some of their stuff here til they got settled down in Florida - My mom kept 27 clocks ( I counted ).
That was her newest thing she was collecting ...............
They ALL had chimes ,music, or some form of "action"they performed every hour on the hour .
Let's just say that if you happened to be visiting ON THE HOUR, you had to stop your conversation until all the clocks were done .
I hate clutter as well and am always getting rid of stuff, but DH is a hoarder and his version of cleaning the garage is to tidy it up and move it around the garage.
Welcome to the New Year all my ville friends!!!!
I did not finish the Vanna ghan, so that is first on my list.
I bought a new journal for the new year, so I'll be starting that.
Going to lunch with a bunch of people from work, so I'll be gone most the afternoon and have to do lesson plans when I get back. :(
Yep, so with you there Tabby. But actually I am the only one bringing in the money right now. I asked him yesterday when I was organizing the stash (he asked to help a couple of times - how cute is that!) Judy, maybe we can hire Phil to get Mom and me to shape up the house. On second thought, even HE couldn't be that brave. It's taken almost 50 years to accumulate the junque (fancy word for crap) that covers every available surface in the house. My grandparents lived there in the late '50's, and it's only gotten piled higher and deeper since then.
I did tell him it was good he didn't come in when I stopped by the first time...as much as my hoarding is bad...he is anal the other way...makes for an interesting marriage:lol
Happy New Years my friends... I managed to stay awake until 12:15 then I went to sleep... greeted the New Year with a glass of wine.. local vineyard "Red Cat" not a bad tasting red wine... DD#1 was drinking Rum and coke... probably the 3rd or 4th time either one of us had a drink all last year... I usually do a drink at Christmas and New Year
Now I'm waiting for my next New Year's tradition... the Rose Bowl Parade... followed by a boiled dinner Ham, potatoes,carrots and cabbage... traditional dinner in my hubby's family... supposedly starting the year with a "poor man's" meal will ensure good luck for the following year... it was my F-I-L 's family tradition when he was a boy so as far as I know it's been in their family over 100 years that I can count...
I got my new printer hooked up yesterday (bought it the day after Thanksgiving at Walmart for $25) was waiting on my DD#1 to hook it up for me... I sat there last night and made a cover for it as the darling 4 legged-monsters like to lay on the printed and sleep... scared one of them silly one day I was on-line and wanted to print something out and the printer started when he was it...
starting my quiltghan today...I figured I would work on it a little everyday... I still have 2 purses to make for my SIL (getting paid for them) and friendship squares to make, and my shrug to finish
Step One: Grab a can opener. Manual or electric, your choice.
Step Two: Grab a can of Bush's Black Eyed Peas with Snaps
Step Three: Open can with can opener. Watch the edges. They're sharp!
Step Four: Heat til hot
There. That's just for you now. Don't go spreading that around! :2nono
Morning all and happy 2008 !
To those of you that think you have clutter- I'll pass along this little story -
My parents sold their house last fall and moved to Florida after living up here all their married lives . They LOVED garage sales and went to them constantly . Not because they NEEDED anything, but it became their hobby, i guess you'd say .
Well, when they decided to move away ,the knew they had to get rid of all that JUNQUE-- I'll use Kathy's word .
I went down several times to help them weed out what to get rid of. They had decided to hire an auctionierre and sell almost everything .
I have never in all my days seen the crap that they had . They have been married now for almost 53 years . They had actually kept every check written since then, every receipt since then. They had papers from their Kelvinator refrigerator from 1962 ....my mom must have owned more shoes than any store in New York city .
My dad owned 87 shirts ( he counted ) ,he had ties, belts, and enough underwear still unopened that he could have sent it to the US troops in Iraq for spares. ( My mom bought it everytime it was on sale so he'd never run out )
She had hats,purses,you name it, every DOODAD that a 70-something lady would ever want or need .
So, the first day I go down,my mom sends me into the bedroom to "help" my dad, since he wanted to keep all his stuff and she told him no, so she thought if I went in, I could talk him into getting rid of some of this stuff .
I took a YARD SIZED trash bag in . ( I am the exct OPPOSITE of a packrat-- I HATE clutter )
Morning Ladies,
I'm home all day. :cheer:cheer:cheer
Julie - I love your quote ...Those things that worry us master us. My DM had me so stressed at my other store. I was constantly worried he would come in and find something not done. It didn't help that I had an assistant that was sabotaging me. It ended well because he now has my store, I have the store that is new (only 1 year old) and my DM's office is in my store. He can now see that I'm a hard worker and put in the hours necessary to get the job done. My sabotager is now under the gun. Revenge is sweet and I didn't have to do a thing.
As to farting...I don't have a signifcant other but my sister and her children lives with me. My sister and I have fart battles. I'm usually the winner.:yes
Going to buy new yarn with my gift card I received for Christmas and then I'll crochet all day.
Have a nice day ladies.
Thanks Tammy- glad we can entertain you guys -- it's fun to start the new year out on a good note . :lol
Let me just put a little Addendum onto the TEETH story .
After questioning my dad as to why they KEPT the teeth , I told him we needed to throw them out .He said, nope, we might need them some day if our others break . I tried explaining that if they were supposedly TOO BIG ,then he shouldn't wear them or he'd look like Mr. ED when he used them .:D
Well, I thought I'd pull a fast one on him, so while he was rummaging through his TIE collection ( I told him if he tied his ties end to end -they would reach the FLOOR of the Grand Canyon from up top )...
I picked up those 3 sets of teeth and tossed them into my big garbage bag . (Still EMPTY at this point )
I might be Smarter than a 5th Grader, but I'm not faster than a 76 year old. :ohdear
I turned my back to go help my mom shuffle through her "pocketbooks"( every size, color and description possible....)
she knows I love purses and kept trying to make me take some of them home to use ..
Well, as I have said many times, I am no Fashion Plate, but I KNEW I did NOT want a straw purse with a flamingo made of pink sequins .....:blink
Anyhow, after TRYING to help her eliminate some of the purses that went out of style in 1947 ( or maybe they never WERE in style ) ,talking her into getting rid of the Jackie Kennedy hats with the nets on the front and little plastic flowers attached ...
I go back to HELP my dad again .
He was just shutting a shoebox .... with a red face .
I said WHAT's in THERE ????
He just kinda mumbled and pushed it off to one side .
Guess what was in the box ?
THREE SETS OF FALSE TEETH HE HAD FISHED OUT OF THE TRASH BAG .
The day of the auction came up . I tell you what-- the auctionierre said it was the BIGGEST he has ever done . They had TWO auctions going at once- one in the front yard and one in the back .
They insisted I come to the auction . All of our town was there .
I was sweating bullets all day hoping that the auctionierre didnt pull out those 3 sets of teeth, or my simple quiet days in Hicksville would be over .
I'd have to move away due to all the chuckles that'd follow me everytime I left the yard .:sweat
JulieKay
January 1, 2008, 12:43 PM
Val- i love your FART battles-- now that would be fun !
And yep, I put that quote on there to remind myself that I am letting the bad things in my life take my life over .
Gotta remind myself of what is good and maybe that will push out the bad .
JulieKay
January 1, 2008, 12:57 PM
Just another quick note-- my dad insisted I take home a trunkful of his clothes for Sam . You'd have to know Sam, to know that he is the plainest dresser in the US . My dad sent him home enough Western shirts ( with the pearl snaps ),jeans with the cowboy stitching, belt buckels with big silver dollars and slip-on WHITE Elvis Presley shoes, that we could have formed an entire Porter Waggoner Wax Museum with the clothing .
Shoulda seen Sam's face :lol
PRICELESS :D
Judy...if Phil came in the house we'd be doing CPR! I always thought I was bad at clutter, but Mom is the worst, and apparently I'm just a poor student of hers. EVERY flat surface must be covered. No table shall be bare in her house. To eat dinner every night we have to wait while she clears the tabletop (or eat amid her paperwork and two daily newspapers).
The chiming clocks take about 3 minutes (chime series is only about 20 seconds or less) to run through them all :lol
V - Glad the peas are coming out good! :yay I do so love black eyed peas. We eat tons of 'em every year. That and butter beans and pinto beans :drool
Do you have the one that makes the bird noises every hour ?
How about the Dale Earnhart one that the race car goes around the clock ?
How about the John Deere that has a tractor that drives in a circle ?
How about the dancing couple that dance to Somewhere over the rainbow ?
How about the Christmas clock that plays a new song every hour YEAR round. Anyone in the mood for Jingle Bells in June ?????
How about the train one that the train chugs around and whistles every hour .
You actually think you are losing your mind if you are there for TWO hour changes .
Nope you win. Mine don't do that kinda thing. Well, okay I have a rooster one that crows but I turned that feature off. And one that plays childrens song that's off as well. I'm a hoarder to a degree. I always think like Cara said, "I might need this someday" and of course after storing it for years when I finally get rid of it what happens? I NEED IT!! :lol
I cleaned my MIL's house and it got me wanting to unclutter. she had stuff piled and stacked and more clothes, coats and shoes than a department store. Some of the stuff I found was just gross.
DH and his siblings and I had already gone through it a few years before and got rid of alot of stuff but it took me going in and doing it by myself to REALLY get it cleaned. Course than everytime she moved I had to do it again and though it was bad again it was never that bad.
I probably got rid of 100 Yard trash bags of stuff to trash and 50 to goodwill!
The thing that drives me crazy is Keith is not much better than her and his sister and brother were just as bad as her till they married clean freaks but Keith will complain about my stuff and say it's too much. I had to remind him the last time he said it that his bedroom when we were dating was so piled with stuff and dirty that you could barely walk in it. At least I have open floor space :lol
I need to go to Target today. Gotta get a water proof mattress cover for Kaila's bed. Keith is cooking some Gumbo and I'm going to do laundry and crochet the rest of the day. :)
My Mom has the most annoying one & it is LOUD. She lives in KS & loves Harleys. She named her dog Harley, she goes to a biker bar named kickstart & had to give up her bra to the wall of bras. And she has a clock that is so LOUD that if we are on the phone we have to stop talking until it is done revving which takes a minute or so. It is horrible & I hate the thing. GRRR! It does it every hour on the hour.
She was wheelchair bound and a hoarder with my two lazy cousins living with her :irk It was disgusting :yuck But no pestilence (sp) around here....just junque :lol I'm just glad to know I'm not the only one :D
Progress on the "silver" shawl. Just plain jane hdc, but it's turning out pretty. Niece lives in PA, so she wanted something less lacy.
SD will find this tote under the Christmas tree this evening when she gets home. It matches the scarf I made for her last year:
And this little cutie took shape when I watched the Rose Parade this morning, I just couldn't resist making him! He does have two little black feet, but the pic is dark, sorry. This is also for SD - I've hidden this one in her room and I'll see how long it takes for her to find it among her crap - oh excuse me, JUNQUE!
Great stuff Norma!! :clap :clap Love the little gnome or Santa. He could be either :yes I love gnomes :manyheart I love the way hdc looks but I can never seem to get it to stay straight if I use it as the whole pattern. It seems to "skew" on me :( Yours is so nice and straight! Wonder what I'm doing wrong? :think
Wow Cara, you're right, this gnome COULD be a :santa ... will have to stash that thought for next year. Would need to add a row of black somewhere for a belt :think And a pom-pom on the end of the hat! So if any of you want to grab that pattern, it's the Amigurumi Grome from the Lion Brand free patterns.
As far as the hdc, maybe you're working too tightly? The microspun has very little give, so maybe that's what's helping me to keep it shaped.
Hi everyone, Happy New year!!!
I'm back from vacation. I haven't read through all the posts yet, just this page. It will take some time to get caught up.
Norma, all your projects look great. I really like that tote a lot.
I started a baby blanket while we were gone, and worked on it of and on all week, only to discover when we got home that I don't have near enough yarn to finish it. Its old yarn, so I doubt if I can get more of it. (Its simply soft baby in a variegated yellow.blue and green, and I haven't seen it around for several years.) So I am now turning it into a baby round ripple. I have ten rows of it done so far. Its going pretty fast. If there isn't enough for the RR, I will just add a yellow border.
The only thing I actually accomplished all week was to make a dishcloth in the car on the way home.
We visited my parents this past weekend, and my mom gave me two grocery bags full of yarn, 4 or 5 skeins of each kind. She is a knitter and always overbuys, but never returns what she doesn't use.
I'm not Norma ;)...but I used to have the problem of dropping a stitch at the end of a row - lose enough stitches and it does go wonky...basically you have to work in the next availbale stitch, not like the dc, when you don't.
Love the colours of the Vanna ghan. Great finish and so soon into 2008
Norma Love your projects. You have been busy. The bookmarks are just lovely. The bag is great too. I can't seem to crochet with the fuzzy yarns, they drive me nuts.
Cindy Hi! Glad your back and had a good vacation!
Off to start my day. Couple loads of washing and ironing and a few floors to mop, then back to my Cross Stitch hopefully. Crocheting tonight.
Tammy - I love the Vanna 'ghan!
Well, we're still waiting on SD's plane. She is in transit from San Diego and got stuck in Chicago - they discovered a hole in the runway, and it's been snowing there. Delayed long enough now that they took the plane back for de-icing ... now the website says they're still delayed, but they're posting an arrival of 5:45. She was supposed to be home by now .... gotta love air travel these days. Guess we better get started to the airport, huh?
Norma lovely stuff! That gnome is so cute!!
Tammy Great Vanna ghan!! such pretty bright colors!
I'm going to try real hard to keep track of every single thing I make and how much yarn I use up so I can see just what I get done in a year. :lol That means a better journal than I had last year.
Tammy - LOVE that ghan!! Excellent work!! :clap :cheer
Heather - Grats on winning December!! :cheer :hug That sounds like a great idea for the journal! I should probably keep better track of stuff like that too but I'm just using a sprial notebook with a chicken on it :D It's not that big though so I can't do much more than put what project I'm doing and my points for that day :yes
Wendy - Have a great couple days at work. Too bad they can't do the report on their own so your vacation doesn't get interrupted. But it shouldn't that bad :hug
Back to my laundry now :irk But I am working on my BILs ghan inbetween. Just dc in Texas A&M colors. Ever once in a while I just need a mindless project :hook
Some gumbo's not so spicey and the shrimps are good :drool What I don't like about it is the okra. Okra should be fried not boiled :lol Fry up some okra and I can have it for a meal by itself but not boiled :yuck
Okay I'm almost caught up. Maddie is bugging me to death so I'm going to give her the computer while I fix their dinner then I'll hopefully be able to get all caught up.
Norma everything looks wonderful. Those bookmarks are so pretty. The tote looks so festive too. Great work on everything.
I'll be back in a little bit to continue reading the last two pages I havent' gotten to yet.
LOVE fried okra! I also love collard greens, gumbo (without the sausage, SORRY), and just about anything southern. I love going to Cracker Barrel to eat, cuz they've got all the stuff my southern heritage seems to crave.
Would you believe I haven't picked up my hook yet today? Gittin the chillin's ready for learnin' tomorra. It will be a weird experience not homeschooling DS10. I will only have DD4 home. I haven't EVER been home with only one of my children... got lots on my list of things I want to accomlish!
