Hi, I'm planning on trying spinning for the first time, and I have a question. How long a single can I expect to get per ounce of roving?

I have no idea, but it's going to depend on how thick you make your single.

totally depends on the weight of yarn you spin... sorry, there's just no accurate answer to give
i can tell you, my very first spinning was 1 ounce and it was VERY irregularly superthick and superthin... there was enough to make my 5 year old daughter a belt about 1 1/2 wide and long enough to knot around her waist with 6 strips of fring on each side (12 dangles-each being about 3 inches).
hope that helps a little :)

Like everyone else said, it depends on how you spin. If you spin lace weight and super fine, you will get gobs...if you spin bulky you won't get as much. It's all in how ya do it.:)
