Financial Transaction Policy Effective 05/24/07
This is a reminder to all Crochetville members to keep your personal financial information safe when arranging payment for a transaction with another Crochetville member. Crochetville bears no liability for any such transactions that members arrange with each other (through the For Sale/Trade/Free folder or otherwise). Enter such transactions at your own risk. We have had a couple of members request bank account information from other members, so we are putting this policy in place.
Guidelines:
Be sure the member is running a legitimate business with the ability to accept credit cards before you provide a credit card or debit card number. Be especially careful with debit card numbers, because if the wrong person gets hold of your debit card information, they can clean out your checking account in a matter of minutes.
Do not give your personal bank account information to another member for any reason (exception: sending someone a check within the United States.) Bankers from two different banks have confirmed for us that it is possible for someone (especially outside the United States) to clean out your bank account in a matter of minutes just with your bank’s routing number and your account number.
Do not request personal bank account information from any member via any method (post, private message, email sent from Crochetville or your personal email account).
You may want to consider using Paypal to send payment to another member.Reporting Requests for Personal Financial Information:
If another member asks you for your personal bank account information, please report that information to Donna (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/member.php?u=1) or AmyS (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/member.php?u=102) immediately. Forward any emails received to admin AT crochetville DOT org. Forward any PMs to AmyS. If the request is made in a post, use the Report Post button (white triangle outlined in red) to notify Donna and Amy. You must forward that information to us (for our legal files) in order for us to take action.
Consequences of Requesting Personal Financial Information
For the first offense, the member will receive a warning and a reminder of our guidelines on this issue.
For the second offense, the member will be permanently banned from Crochetville. We take privacy and security very seriously here at Crochetville. We will not tolerate any attempts to get sensitive financial account information from our members.
