Hey All

I love knowing there's so much knowledge here. I've done a search for a felted bag that tickles my fancy and so far I've found this (http://cris-craft.blogspot.com/2007/03/irmas-felted-drawstring-bag-materials.html).

Because it calls for Knitpicks Wool of the Andes bulky (3, 100 gm. hanks) I decided to go out and buy 100 gm of Paton's Classic wool to make this bag.

However, before I got started on it, I wondered if any out there had other patterns they prefer?

This is my first foray into felting.

TIA, Joyce

Are you planning on making yours with two strands of Patons Classic wool held together to match the bulky weight yarn called for in the pattern?

No, I'm not...you foresee problems if I dont? Because I can adjust my plans

You are in luck today! At www.anniesattic.com (http://www.anniesattic.com)
they are offering a felted bag as the free project. You may not want to make the bag they are offering, but the directions could be helpful to you. And yes, I agree with Sherryzzz! Try to stay as true to the directions as you possibly can, even when making yarn substitutions. I am sure it will turn out great..... it is a beautiful pattern! Please don't forget to show us photos of it when you are done!

Thank you ladies for your input. I emailed the designer of the backpack too so now I will be using two strands held together or make something else and buy the bulky weight.

Hi..

Did you just buy one 100 gm skein of the Paton's. Because, the pattern calls for 300gms. It's unfortunate that the pattern does not give the size of the bag... either pre- or post- felting, because that would make it much easier to substitute a different yarn. I use Paton's all the time to felt, and it felts really well and makes a nice sturdy purse. I usually use a size L hook and a single strand of yarn.

In clicking on the pictures of the completed purse, I would have felted it more. You can clearly see the stitches... I prefer the stitches to disappear (but that can be a matter of personal preference.. not saying one is right or wrong).

I'll be interested in what response you get from the designer.

Hi JCB, no, I bought 300 gm of classic wool. I became discouraged last night, but woke up today with a new idea. I tried to execute my new idea and the result can be found in accessories show and tell (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?p=788025#post788025).

All-in-all, I'm pleased. This was my first effort and I'm THRILLED with it. I will be smarter about it in the future.

Oh, by the way, I have 1 skein (100 gm) and little less than a half left from the 300 gms I bought.

I am going to use the leftovers to perfect felting before venturing out into other wools or projects.

Thanks to you all who posted here, you made me think, you challenged me and that's what I need.

See my blog (in my siggy) for the full story on this one.

Hi Joyce...

That bag is awesome! Now, THAT'S felted! No stitch definition at all. Great job!
