I'm looking for some type of a bag pattern for my 12 year old son. He has been jealous lately with the bags that I have made for my daughter and myself. So now I'm on a search for a bag that is more manly than some of the ones I've seen out there.

Can anyone help me?

How about a draw string gym bag? I did one for my daughter. I did it in her school colors and even got brave and made a chart and put her name on it, her team name and a volleyball.

I used a free beach tote pattern.

Good luck in your searching.

How about a messenger bag? You could make it in "guy" colors. Depending on his age you could make a small backpack type bag. I made my seven year old son a "Jakie bag" named after him. I basically made a giant rectangle, sewed it up leaving a good portion for the flap and made straps that I sewed on the back for him to wear.

Bernat.com has a camoflauge bag that seems manly to me b/c of the camo colors.

The camoflage yarn is a great idea! What does he plan to use his bag for? That may determine the size and shape bag you need. Many bag patterns are suitable for a young man, if the color and finishing details are plain or masculine. You could add an applique to the bag. Sabra, here at CVille, has patterns for boys motifs.

I was thinking about the same thing for my sons. Maybe a backpack done in the camo yarn. They have several different types of camo out there.
