I don't know, but I do know you can still read stuff at the old board... I think.

The pictures disappeared, Sherry, something must have happened to the images but it was a good long while ago. Well before we moved the board.
I'm sure one of our sock folks will come along and try to help you through the rough patches. What kind of problem are you having with the heel? :think

well, I'm using http://members.aol.com/Sbaycgoa/patsock.htm this pattern, however, I decided to just frog it and do a diffrent sock for my daughter...it just does not seem to be a good pattern for a small foot IMO...I did pretty good until the heel part, but then I would do as the pattern said and get TOTALLY lost (unless it is supossed to have BIG gaping holes where you "re"increase, in which case I just don't like the look) so i rip'ed it up this morning and I'm in search of a diffrent pattern :blush It could be the yarn I'm using, I'm not sure exactly what weight it is (it wasn't listed as one of the weights on the pattern) It's knitting worseted weight. Anyway I'm a quitter :eek :lol :jumpyay but quitting is better than STRESS over a sock huh? :haha

Sherry, have you tried either of Linda's (Grafton Fibers) patterns?
this one is the one the tutorial was originally based on (www.graftonfibers.com/socks.htm)
I found this pattern a lot easier to do when I first attempted socks. It has an afterthought heel that you add after you finish the body and trunk of the sock, and it's pretty much foolproof !
The heel is just decreasing in the round, which works out pretty well.
Andrea wrote up her modification for the heel (www.cs.unc.edu/~mantler/misc/fun_stuff/art/crochet/heelinstr.html), which looks great on the socks she's been doing in the South Bay Toes Up pattern... but it would work on any other socks. :)
Feel free to post any problems you might have and we'll try to help you through them! :)

You're not a quitter, you're just trying to find a pattern that works for you. It's a two-way street. :hug

Was it SamplerLady who did the tutorial, or am I mistaken? I was thinking recently that I haven't seen her posting in a while--does anyone know if everything's ok with her?

it was samplerlady who did the tutorial. I've been wondering the same thing about her... I wonder if she's updated her lj lately...
She has, so I presume she's okay. :)

Hi Xantha,
The sock pattern of mine I have posted on my site http://www.geocities.com/missmarlad/socks.html (sorry no pic yet) is meant for small feet as mine are almost child size. I'm sure with a stitch or two less and/or a smaller hook it might work well for your daughter.
My feet are somewhere around 3 girls' sizes to 5 ladies sizes in plain canvas shoes, sandals, etc. so I had to design my own sock pattern. The others, even though they said shoe size 5-7 or so were just too big on me.
If you can use it and make it work, good luck! You might try using a sport or lighter yarn too. The heel on mine is more or less adjustable since it not only is the heel but goes under to make part of the foot. Can't really explain without showing the pattern.
