How to get started at freeform crochet?

I have been searching out INCREDIBLE examples of freeform crochet, and I wnt to give it a try....does anyone have some advice for me? Perhaps some books that are useful or some textured stitches that I should learn first? Any input will be helpful!

I got this book and it gives you a great selection of individual items to make that you then put together to get your free form sweater. It also has some patterns for sweaters in there. Haven't attempted anything yet though.

knot just knitting which is a website by Prudence Mapstone has digital books you can order. I just did my first scrumbles 2 days ago. I bought 2 books from Jenny Dowde (I think that is her last name) and it is so much fun! I just started with a circle (dc into a chained loop like you do for a granny square) and just started adding onto to it. I have joined a freeform yahoo group too. I find freeform to be just stunning. I am attracted to colour. The crochet insider has some really nice pictures and links of freeform crochet in the galleries.

I found the easiest way to start a scumble is to fairly randomly crochet into both sides of a short chain with various stitches, so you don't get too regular shape, everything can turn into circle i find even when you are trying for a different effect.just go for it the worst thing that can happen is you have to start frogging

I ordered the two freeform books from Annie's Attic last night 99 cents each. I tried a little bit of freeform about a week ago and it's really fun so I can't wait for the books to get here.

I can see where freeform could quickly get out of hand:eek ......I wanted to try and make something smallish like a purse and it has quickly turned into a rather large piece that will now become a wall hanging:hook ...stay tuned for pixs of my WIP:photo!
