View Full Version : My Newest Design: Fair Play Doily in 2 Versions

Here is my lastest creation. I am calling this one Fair Play. I went about this one bit differently. I did up two doilies of the same design. I did the first one in size 20 thread in a color that will go anywhere. Ecru. This doily is for me. Then I redid the design in 2 colors of size 10 thread. This will be the one I submit. Again I am trying to work designs that lend themselves to mutilple color changes. The size 20 thread doily measures 10 1/2 inches across done with a size 10/1.3mm hook. The Size 10 thread doily measures 14 inches across done with a size 7/1.65mm hook. I am always amazed by how changing the colors, changes the look of the doily.
I look forward to hearing what you all think of this one.

They're both beautiful. It's amazing the difference between soild color & the multicolor one.

I'm partial to the ecru one, but once again . . . another beautiful design!

Your talent just leaves me in awe.

changing the colour sure mixes it up and alters it. i like both, more partial to the ecru one. i get the feeling those dark circles would really highlight a vase or something similar atop it

I usually like color, but I have to say I prefer the Ecru in this one. I think it highlights the lacy middle section better, and that, together with the outside edging, is its main feature, IMO.

Beautiful work, as always. :manyheart

Thank you everyone. Your kind comments are appreciated. I must admit I like the ecru one the best also. That's why it's mine...........................:yes The other one actually looks much nicer in real life. Some colors just don't photograph well.

They are both beautiful, as always you have another winner on your hands. I can't decide which one I like best. What lucky people getting to test that creation.

I appreciate seeing a pattern shown in different versions. I am one that cannot take a single-colored doily and determine where best to make color breaks. That's a good idea to show it both ways. It's a beautiful pattern.

They are both stunning! I love the ecru one because it really, to me anyway, accentuates the delicate stitches. You have such a talent. Great job!

Like almost everyone else, I like the ecru better than the colored version. I wonder if the colored version in a single color (something like the light pink) would be as popular as the ecru. In other words, do we like the ecru version because it is just one color...or because it is ecru?

It would be interesting to see a version of the two-color doily with the colors reversed. Or perhaps just try photographing the existing two-color doily against a different background. The lacy light pink may just be getting lost against the light background.

And one of these days I'll start a thread asking for people's recommendations of which manufacturer's ecru is the favorite of most crocheters here. Maybe it's me...or maybe it's just the lighting in stores...but I'm seeing a lot of ecru that looks too grayish (and dingy) to me, but most of the ecru doilies I see posted are lovely.

That is absolutely beautiful. The pattern shows up much better in the ecru (lighting maybe?) but the colors in the other are lovely - - - I want them both . . . .

The use of colors really makes certain parts of the design stand out and be noticed! I like the solid ecru, but really love the two color! Again, another beautiful pattern! :yay:yay:yay

I have been admiring all your beautiful creations--but feeling a bit woeful because I see them here, haven't any idea how to purchase your patterns (other than the two books you have on your website)....please don't tell me they will never be available for purchase (the patterns, that is); I shan't be able to dry my eyes if you do....
