I MUST have that button! :) Now, which stocking am I going to make?? I guess since my ultimate goal is to make 12, I can choose 12 patterns. :)

July 25, 2004, 11:13 AM
OK Let me rephrase the question: Where should the button (which is great) link to? Another page or to this page?
Donna
July 25, 2004, 12:04 PM
I was waiting for someone else to answer, since this is not my CAL. :p I think it would be fine to link it to this topic, Holiday Stocking Crochet Along (http://p084.ezboard.com/fcrochetvillefrm32.showMessage?topicID=18.topic), to the Crochet-alongs (http://p084.ezboard.com/fcrochetvillefrm32) forum, or to Crochetville (http://p084.ezboard.com/bcrochetville) itself. Really, it's up to Melinda, though. :wink

what type of yarn is everyone planning on using? my Christmas decor is very traditional... balls on the tree with old toys for decoration.... make sense? anyhow, i was thinking of using a cotton, looked at the lion brand kitchen cottons this weekend..... how bizarre is that, but there is not a "Christmas" green...... seemed to have a touch of blue to it. anyone have ideas of where i should go to find something?--point me in the right direction for a brand???
man, i ramble, don't i?:blah
thanks

I have a kit leftover from last Christmas sales for making a stocking using red and white feathers. This may be the motivation I need to start it! The kit came with a knitting pattern but I'd much rather crochet it. So I'll have to find a very simple pattern, or I may just wing it (since it doesn't have to actually fit anyone <img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/tongue.gif" />
Tiffany
July 26, 2004, 07:07 PM
I know that I'll be using the more traditional colors - red, white and green. I saw Caron's Christmas colors at Joann's the other day and they're more burgundy and forest green colors.

I'm making the Baby Girls First Christmas Stocking (http://hometown.aol.com/lffunt/bgstocking.html) first off since we have a grand-daughter who is having a first Christmas. It'll of course be in pink lol
After that I have some greens and reds I have wanting to put to good use. I think they are leftover Christmas yarns, they were in one of my ebay autions I won.

I went back through my old crochet magazines. :eek I found that I had them stashed in more places than yarn. Well anyway I found 5 stockings that I really like, and can't figure out which one to do...so I had this idea maybe one for each of my siblings and their families and fill it with goodies for a Christmas present. :wink You wouldn't believe the bookmarks I found in my search for stockings. I did do a few rows on my sock this morning. But those silly bookmarks kept calling and I'm almost done with one. :p I told myself no more projects till that sock is done. And I'm so excited to start a stocking that tomorrow I WILL finish my sock so that I can start my stocking. The first one has burgundy and forest green with bells on it. Well guess I've blabbed enough. Thanks for listening.

I'm going to make the pattern from Bernat (http://www.bernat.com/pattern.php?PID=253) with Caron Victorian Gold yarn. (hope it works :p )
Tiff, Caron does have traditional Christmas yarn. It's the basic red & green with silver metallic woven in. I haven't seen it in stores, but you could get it here. (http://www.herrschners.com/products/sku-011298__id-552.html)

Well, it's been awhile and I thought I would update you with my progress! I am nearly done with side two of my tractor stocking. I expect to finish and put it together this weekend. Then I can start on the embellishments!:yay2
It's going along well, no problems. Got to check out lots of John Deere tractors yesterday at the State Fair for additional inspiration. (I would have preferred to check out the cowboys at the Rodeo, but the rodeo was cancelled minutes before start due to power out, darn it).
I will be able to post a finish photo even without the digital camer, but in the meantime, my stocking parts are too big to scan, alas!

renee - that looks great!! how fabulous to donate them to the library!!!
do i see shimmer? the Christmas shimmer yarn is on sale at JoAnn's this week.
Is there a gallery page set up for this????
i'm trying to figure out how to do extra pages on my site... when that happens, i'll host it if no one else has already
Nay65
September 20, 2004, 01:28 PM
rebecca, yup, you see shimmer. I used Caron Victorian Gold. I love that yarn. I have a huge stash of it from when it used to be sold in 1.75 oz balls.
I chose the library to donate to because there isn't often a lot of extra money for fun stuff. The kids that come in are so thrilled to see the Christmas trees every year, that I thought they'd get a kick out of these.
I'm not sure if there is a gallery for this yet. I don't know how many folks have started working on their stockings yet.

At a craft fair this weekend, I saw huge knitted mittens sold instead of stockings. They were very cute. I'm wondering how hard it would be to crochet them. Maybe a treaditional crocheted mitten pattern using two strands, larger hook? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v478/SamplerLady/mmouseplus.gif

I made it from: Baby Girl's First Stocking (http://www.hometown.aol.com/lffunt/bgstocking.html) Although when finishing I made the little lace edging instead of what is on the pattern. Oh and I also took out the Tr row of the cuff for a ribbon and justr made it solid sc.
It was really fun. There'sone for a boy there too, which is basically the same only blue and without the "girly fancys"

I have a really quick question I'm hoping someone can help me with. I'm working on the Lily sugar 'n cream christmas stocking & I'm stuck! :<> I've done up to the toe area. The pattern says
Toe: Next row: 1 sc in each sc to end of row. ch1 turn
Next row: sc2tog over next 2 sts. 1 sc in each of next 13 sc sc2tog over last 2 sts. 15 sts. ch1 turn
Next row: *sc2tog over next 2 sts. 1 sc in each sc across to last 2 sts. sc2tog over last 2 sts. ch1 turn
Rep from * until 3 sts remain, omitting ch1 in last row. fasten off.
I have done that part...the next part is where I am stuck
With WS of work facing join A with SS in next sc of last long row. ch1 1 sc in same sc 1 sc in each sc to last 2 sc sc2tog over next 2 sts.
My question is WHERE do join A? Which is the last long row. I feel awfully stupid asking this :bang I have 2 stockings waiting for me to finish it off!
TIA Ammie

October 25, 2004, 08:52 PM
It looks like you should have completed one side of the toe, and now, you'll start the othe side, and you'll sew everything up once the sock is done.
Turn the stocking so that you are opposite the first half of the toe, and join the yarn with a slip stich into the first stitch of the last row you worked on the foot (ot you may have worked one row in which you went completly around.
I'm guessing you'll probably start with a decrease, a number of stitches, and another decrease at the end of the row then turn. You should mirror what you did for the first part of the toe.
Whew, I hope that helps. It really isn't as bad as it looks.
Mamakas1
October 25, 2004, 09:10 PM
Thanks Vera! I'll have to try tonight. What looks odd to me is that the first part of the toe is on top. Where I think somewhere along the line I screwed up & it should be on the side...if that makes an sense. :thinking2 Plus the first side of the toe is a triangle. Which is also confusing me. Argh! I figured everything else out why not this part. Thanks again for your help Vera!:)h
Ammie
vhanna26
October 25, 2004, 09:44 PM
The two parts of the toe are triangles, and the should mirror each other in number of rows and stiches.
You're right, it should be on the the side, though.
I'm almost finished with a stocking, I'll take a photo before sewing it up to show you.

Hi! I just finished the Quick n' Easy stocking (the second-to-last link on julie5876's comment) http://hometown.aol.com/lffunt/stocking.htm
The green yarn is some chunky kind by Lion Brand and the red is even chunkier and by Red Heart. Sorry, I don't remember what type though. The pattern was perfect. I only changed the finishing. I sewed the two sides together by single crocheting with the green, and then single crocheted around the top with the red and then chaining 10 for the loop. I'm going to make my husband a red one with green trim. This pattern only took an hour and a half. How fun! I'm glad you put together this CAL!

I'm new to Crochetville and I'd love to join this crochet-along! I hope this isn't cheating, but I have a stocking I started 2 years ago that I'd like to finish. It is a granny square stocking, and it is also the reason I got into crocheting. My grandmother made one of these stockings for each of us grandkids, but she wasn't able to crochet any more by the time my brother was born. So I wanted to make him one to carry on the tradition.
I'm looking forward to the crochet-along!

I was at Wal-mart yesterday to buy something and stopped to look for yarn to start a new stocking for my youngest niece. They had absolutely NO Christmas yarn. I was very disappointed. I guess I will have to try the craft stores. I just don't know what is up with Wal-mart these days.

Kari,
I love your stocking! Isn't that pattern quick? I'm making one right now out of chenille and was suprised that they really do work up fast, although I did have to frog my first one because I misread the directions and put the foot at the top. It was a z. :blush

It's a great pattern It took me about 4 or 5 hours of working but not straight work, that was starting and stopping to do housework or corral the boy etc.
I was tickled at how fast it went even using two strands.
I still have some of that grey chenille:brrr .... I am thinking hubby needs one, just have to find the time to squeeze it in somewhere lol:help :faint

I finished one stocking, using the same Quick & Easy Stocking pattern as Kari. I used LB Thick & Quick Chenille and will probably add a brim in cream. I'm going to take a better picture tomorrow without the holiday tablecloth as a background. :hsanta

I don't oppose it, I plan on making more stockings next year for next Christmas (for the ones I didn't have time to make this year). I think it's a good idea to keep it open.

I've finished my stockings. I don't have photos of the last four because I wanted to get them to the library. The staff is having their Christmas party on Friday, so I'll try to get a picture of all of them hanging up.

I'm a new member, only joined this week. I would love to participate in something like this for next Christmas. My son, who has a wonderful stocking that was knit by his Grandma, is getting married in February. I'd love to make a comparably sized stocking for his wife-to-be for next Christmas.

I made a stocking too but I cant post it just yet - until the recipient receives her package. Then I will post the picture :D However, I realized today that I totally forgot to add the little part to hang the stocking with! So, recipient, you'll have to add that little extra bit to your stocking :blush

It was hard to take a good picture of this. The stocking is ribbed; but it doesn't show in the picture. The pattern is from an old book, "Chrismas Crochet" by American Needlework. The yarn is white cotton yarn and Red Heart Holiday Craft yarn in victorian.
Happy Holidays!

I actually made these last year, but this year we are spending the holidays with my parents so each stocking has a pressie in and they will be opened either Xmas night or Boxing Day.:manyheart

I absolutely love the Polka Dot stocking wolfs1love linked. This will be my husband's and my first Christmas since we got married, and what a great way to celebrate it than with handmade stockings. Now, where do I find the time to finish two while finishing presents for everyone else!??
