View Full Version : Pillow Crochet Along
Stephanie

I need to make a couple of pillows (cushions) and thought I could inspire others to crochet right along with me and get these done before the end of the year. It would not start until some agreed upon date after Labor Day. This gives everybody time to decide on patterns and fibers as well as finishing up (or advancing on) other projects.
The Pillow-Along would be any 14 to 18 inch pillow cover that is crocheted in your choice of fiber. Share with us your pattern (link, photo or title), yarn selection and photos or scans!
Anybody want to join me?
I've already purchased my pattern booklet (Leisure Arts - Crocheted pillows by Ann Halliday). I'm letting my Mom select from this booklet which pillow she wants me to do for her and color(s). The other pillow is for me!
I don't know how to design a button, but hopefully we can come up with something before the start.
Happy crocheting!
Stephanie

I'm pretty sure it was Stephanie that had mentioned it before, though I could be wrong. She had posted asking how she needed to set up a CAL. <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/thumbsup.gif" />

How convenient! I want to crochet a cushion for my Mum for her birthday in November, so I've got a bit of time, but it would be nice to get it finished early. I made another one for her for Mother's Day, and only finished it on the morning of the day I was due to give it to her. :oops :rolleyes
I already have the wool picked out - I've got a bunch of different novelty yarns in shades of denim blue. I'll probably do a simple pattern, like sc in stripes, to make the most of the yarn textures.

I just found a great <a href="http://www.adultramblings.therapids.net/checkpillow.htm" target="_new">pattern</a> that I want to do. I'm in!

Yes, I was the one who was asking if there were requirements for doing an 'along'.
<<I made another one for her for Mother's Day, and only finished it on the morning of the day I was due to give it to her. >>
Isn't that the truth! I once finished an afghan for my sister 1 hour before her birthday party. Great! Glad to have you along!

I've decided to make the official start of this project for Sept. 8 and our finish will be the end of this year. So, start whenever you want!
I'm buying the yarn for my first pillow tomorrow. They have lots of new yarns in now and I want to try something I haven't used before (I haven't pinned my Mom down for her pillow selection, so I'll start with MINE!).

I would love to be a part of this. I'm using Anne Halliday's book as well, and using Homespun. I've already started, didn't know there was a crochet-along getting going, and it's only halfway through the first side...but I have two pillows to make, so please let me in :yay

I've started one of mine. I'm about 3/4 of the way through the first side. I'm using Paton's Cha Cha (daughter wanted a furry pillow) and am just doing rows of sc to size.

Here I am, the hostess and I'm not ready to start yet. :blush
I need to get my yarn tomorrow so I can start.
:nono
My only excuse is this stupid cold. I've been getting medicine head without the medicine but finally got drugs today and feel much better (thank you Alkaseltzer Plus Cold Medicine Gel caps!).

Here's mine:
It's in fall colors, and is too wide, unfortunately--it is supposed to fit my square pillowform--oh well. I edged it with some boa, and put a velcro closure on the 1 open side (so I can make lots of other pillow cases and switch them, and wash them):

Michelle, using velcro as a closure is a great idea/tip. :thumbsup I would never have thought of it myself. Did you use sticky tape velcro or the sew in kind?
shelbyro
September 10, 2004, 01:06 PM
thanks!
It's the "sew in" kind--I used brown thread, tiny stitches, and hid them under the boa as much as I could. I <img border=0 src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/rowofhearts.gif" /> velcro!

I finished my first one today :)

It's made with Lion Brand Homespun. I love it! It's so soft. I used the Soft Ribbon pattern in the Decorative Pillows book from Leisure Arts by Anne Halliday. (I believe that's the name of the book...I'm too lazy to get up! LOL)

Hey ladies, you are doing a great job on your pillows!! I'm barely half done with ONE SIDE! Mine is simple double crochet, but due to the caterpillar yarn, it takes longer than I thought (and cannot be done while watching TV or talking!).

I finally started the cushion for my Mum. It is stripes in sc, but using different novelty yarns to add interest. I have three yarns in denim blue shades: a chenille, a sort of sparkly yarn, and a sort of fleecy yarn, and one lighter blue yarn for contrast.

I was looking at patterns for squares tonite and decided to make a couple of pillows for our bed since I already have some yarn in my stash that will match nicely.
One will be this square with enough rounds added to it to make it fit the pillow form, and the other will be from some homespun I have that I've tried to use a half a dozen times. Always had to frog it because it wasn't looking the way I wanted but I love the color so this will be it's final resting place!! :bow
