I've been wondering if anyone has some favorite patterns for shrugs or similar items that they could share. I have to have sleeves at my work and was hoping to make something to wear with the sleeveless tops I have. I'm hoping also that they can be somewhat lightweight as I'm pregnant and can get warm pretty easily. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the link Empress! I was wondering too if anyone has made any of these shrugs that they just loved and would make over and over again? That kind of helps me know if a pattern is a good one :lol

I love the shrug pattern from Tahki Stacy Charles from the 2006 spring crochet book (http://www.jimmybeanswool.com/secure-html/onlinegen/currgen/TahkiStacyCharles/TahkiStacyCharlesIncBooks.asp?specPCVID=7040) (the only place I've found it in stock is from Jimmy Beans Wool). It's really easy to make - you start with a u-shape for the necekline and work it from the top down and all in one piece. I've made it just like the pattern, and also made it longer with a few rows joined and added to the sleeve part to make the sleeves a little longer too. I used Lion Cotton Ease, and also a worsted weight no-name brand I got on sale at Walmart (had to use size smaller hook for gauge with this yarn). To get it to fit me though, I had to leave out the extra connecting stitches at the underarm, which gave me two less shells per row from the underarm down. For the longer version I then added in shell at each side (where you would have a side seam if this pattern had one) to give a little shaping and more width for the hips! Also, I just did a simple edging (I'm not into chain loop fringe!) I found this pattern to be very versatile and will use it again and again. :yes
A similar free pattern is this Drops pattern from Garn Studio (http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/visoppskrift.php?d_nr=99&d_id=29&lang=en) - though the directions are a little vague and somewhat difficult to follow, and it's British terminology.
I really liked making this Garn Studio Drops pattern (http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/visoppskrift.php?d_nr=99&d_id=16&lang=en) too.
I love, love, love Eileen Tepper's Shrug-a-licious (http://www.hometown.aol.com/tepperleen/page6.html) pattern!
Also, check out Diane Langan's (http://www.dianelangan.com) website, or Angela/LaVonne Best's (http://lavonneknotjustknits.com/) website.
I really want to make the Beatrice (http://www.berroco.com/exclusives/beatrice/beatrice.html) shrug from Berroco, and the Shrug Springs Eternal (http://www.geocities.com/knitensity/ShrugSpringsEternal.pdf) by Nikki Adams!

Do a search in original patterns here, too. My favorite shrug pattern came from here...found it!!

I did it in pink, short sleeved and just love it!! And when I say pink, I do mean PINK! LOL I'll try to remember to get a picture one of it.
Also, really, you can take your favorite stitch and make it into a rectangle the width you want from arm to arm, then seam sleeves on the sides.
I'm in the same boat...I have to have sleeves at work and all my summer shirts are sleeveless!! OY!!
