I'm back again asking all you wonderful people for some advice. I am needing to make an afghan for my 3 year old son. He asked for red, but I think I'd like to mix it up and add some blue, yellow and green in and probably some black to break it up. The problem is I can't find a pattern I like. :( I once saw an afghan made with really big squares, like six of them together would fit a twin bed, but I can't for the life of me find it again. I believe that was made in black with all primary color stripes and was worked in the round.

Anyway, if I can't find that any other suggestions would be appreciated. I just can't find one I like and don't particularly want to make a ripple. Thanks in advance for any help!

what about a round ripple in all the colors seperated by a row of black or giant granny squares done in each color maybe bordered in black or a straight ripple or the granny ripple be sure to look at www.crochetpatterncentral.com for ideas to.

I don't know if this (http://www.caron.com/projects/br/CN0990_colorblock_af.html) is too trendy, but I'm doing this one for my brother. It's just a few squares of basic dc,sc, but is turning out great so far.

I'm doing a crazy stitch (http://crochet.about.com/library/blcrazyst.htm) blanket for my Son-In-Law. I'm doing the pattern across so that the color changes will show as vertical stripes in the Van Gogh's Closet (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=51096) style. That is, using two strands of yarn of the same color to start, then changing one of the strands to the next color for two rows, then changing so both strands are the same color, and on and on - just a little planning on the width and you've got a masterpiece.

Here is a cute afghan for kids

You can make a crayon pillow with it too (perhaps in red as he asked for that color) 3rd row down here......

The crazy stitch looks a lot like the box stitch I use when I make afghans it is a warm blanket because the stitches end up so closed. Look Ma no holes! I like the afghan Selune suggested, it is the type that can grow with him, you know not to babyish! There it is my two cents!

These are grannies, most giant squares, some not. All worth looking at.

On my list of WIPs is a solid red Afghan of the Sandman. (http://www.crochetgarden.com/lilypond/afghanofthesandman.html) I'm making it to be a bedspread for my 2 year old son's firetruck bed.

Another pattern you might consider is in the Leisure Arts book, Afghans for All Seasons. It's called, "A Child's Very Own" and is on page 126. It's not a granny square, but is worked like one (is it called working in the round even if it's square? :think). I'm not the greatest at explaining, but you might take a look at the book the next time you're at a craft store.

:ty :ty :ty

I knew you guys would come through for me. The one I was thinking of was most like the Vanna's Choice Squared Afghan that Empress Busy Bee suggested, but you all had great suggestions. I can add a bunch of them to my to do list for Christmas gifts for my 1 niece and 5 nephews. :D

Thanks again, you guys are great!:clap :flower
