Lamp Shade Cover

I've tried all day to figure out how I could crochet a lamp shade cover and can't figure it out. I just have a regular, simple lamp on my end table in my living room that has an old, dented shade that I want to cover up.

I found this knitting pattern for one that is close to what I'm wanting to do, but I don't want anything fancy like cables at the bottom. http://knitty.com/ISSUEspring05/PATTshade.html

You could make a chain that is as wide as either the top or the bottom of your shade, and being careful not to twist the chain, join with a slip stitch. You can then use the stitch of your choice with increases every row or two if starting from the top, or decreases every row or two if starting from the bottom. Just keep trying it on your shade to make sure it fits. :) Someone else may have a better idea. :hook

Good luck and I would love to see your finished product. It sounds like a great way to recycle an old lamp shade.

I think I'd go with cotton or wool to be on the flammability safer side...I rather liked the crochet memories one, it was pretty, cotton, and let a lot of light shine through.

I know that there is a pattern of a lampshade in a pineapple crochet book published by Dover. I cannot find my copy off hand but I know for certain that it is in there.

Is this too frilly for what you want? This is a small lampshade that fits a kerosene hurricane lamp, but it could be made as big as you need, just keep going until you reach the desired size.
