I realize they're are a few other blanket crochet alongs but this one is strickly for charity work. I'm making Beths little star blanket for my local animal shelter :c9 I also plan on making Poco's toy to go along w each blanket I give.Happy Crocheting!!

I'm in, since almost everything I am crocheting right now is for a charity. I will stick to snuggle blankets for this thread. Let me know if there are any rules I need to know about. I could not find anything that listed the quarters & stuff like someone mentioned. Happy crocheting.:hook

I would really like to be part of the charity crochet along. Is it just a matter of making a baby or adult blanket and sending it to my charity of choice?:think
Thanks,

I finished 1 more star blanket today, and will start another when I get back downstairs away from the computer :lol That makes 3 star blankets and 1 big 36X36 crazy blanket all for shelter animals. My goal is at least 10 for shelters and then may do some for another charity.

April 25, 2005, 03:28 PM
I'm a woman on a mission :lol I made yet another star afghan:hook I'm determined to get 10 blankets done and I can then relax. Now have 5 done I'm measuring my star afghan from 1 tip to the 2 skipped dc spot. If I measure from tip to tip they're too small and from side to side too big.I may make a wacky color round ripple next just for a switch.

oh, how i love making that round ripple! it takes awhile if you make it big cause it's not an open weave but it's so worth it the results are so cool. i can't wait to start on another one in colors like the sunshine :)
want to try one of those stars too...maybe might start that one today! but i already have two other blankies on the hooks i should finish those first...lol
hugs!

I started a round ripple just to frog it. It was curling up bad. I started a star and love it!!! Anyone else have trouble with round ripple?
Chiscrochetcrazy
April 26, 2005, 03:08 PM
Sharon I'm on about the 14th row and no curling but I was having alot of curling at first. I realized that I was probably needing to skip a stitch in one of the first few rws. The instructions got me a little confused too but now it's going good. Try doing this on Rw 3 * 1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc skip next stitch* repeat around. Hope that helps.

I feel like such a dope. Every round ripple I see is so perfect!!
Chiscrochetcrazy
April 27, 2005, 11:51 AM
Oh Sharon :hug it's not you obviously the instructions are a little confusing. Not to offend the designer. The way I did it made it go along good it's not curling at all.Come on Sharon you can do it :cheer

I found this quote on an old post:
It's called Round Ripple Baby Afghan. The error is in round 3. The * should be before the "skip 1 st" not after it. Then it works. Otherwise, it is really a mess. )

April 27, 2005, 12:03 PM
Yep that's what I did. Told you it was the pattern not you:hug

About how many ounces of yarn is good for a star afghan? How about a round ripple?
Chiscrochetcrazy
April 28, 2005, 12:27 PM
Depends on what size you're making. I made the stars 24 x24 from one tip to the skip 2 dc spot and it took 6 oz. I'm using stash so I can't say for sure but I use 2 colors and it uses about half of a 6 oz skein. The round ripple about the same.I just finished the round one and it is so worth trying :manyheart love the results.

I am on my 5th ball of cotton tots. Is that about right then?
Chiscrochetcrazy
April 28, 2005, 02:59 PM
Sharon I don't know about Cotton tots but aren't they about 1.5 or 2 ounces :think I'm using red heart since they're for animal shelters.Seems like your using alot but then don't know how big it is. I know with the one I made for my dd I used a ton of yarn.I'm sorry I can't answer your question exactly. Probably was no help at all:blink

Thought I'd add a pic of the round ripple.I've started another 1 today.Again forgive the colors aren't the greatest but I don't think the critters will mind.

1 more made it turned out pretty cute considering I ran out of a color and added another that I didn't think would look good :) but suprisingly did. My count is 9 done and I have 1 more to go for my goal , so I'll be making some toys and may make start some blankets for project linus.

Hi,
You can count me on on this CAL. I am the owner/founder of a crochet for charity group (HELPING HANDS OF TN). We are in the process right now of making afghans (child size and babies) to donate to St Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN. I would love to join in on this CAL and have the opportunity to hear about and maybe see some pictures and ideas of the types of blankets and afghans that other people are making for charity. I'm new to Crochetville and I'm loving every second.

Welcome Betty I think we planned the timing of the blankst along kinda bad , it's too hot for me in Tx to even think about making blankets. But I did make 8 for homeless animal shelter. You can see the pic in my photo album on my blog.
Maybe you'll get me motivated to make a few more :) Again Welcome :hug and feel free to show us some pictures , ask for patterns , or suggest patterns to use.
