I'm not sure if this is how I'm supposed to do this ... but here goes! I can correct it later if it doesn't work!!

Well, I've decided to have a go at crocheting all sorts of leaves.

My inspiration came from Erssie Major's lovely May Crown featured here on the Anticraft site http://www.theanticraft.com/archive/beltane06/maidensglory.htm.I made my own version and thought ... these aren't hawthorn leaves, I wonder how you crochet hawthorn leaves??

Well, I haven't got to the Hawthorn yet, but this is my interpretation of oak.

I've made up this pattern myself - yarn is Twilleys Freedom Spirit and Rowan Wool Double Knitting so far - other colours may be used at some stage when I get some more! I'm planning to make an Oak King crown or something - see what happens. I'm also going to sling some of the Twilleys leaves in the washer to see what happens because I know that yarn felts like billy-o!

In case you need more, here are some links I collected when I made a fall purse, appliqued with leaves

If you can't get to the last one, do a search on freepatterns.com for apron. It's the acorn apron.

Very pretty!! I'd love to see how they felt up. Looks like white oak if you ask me... but it's been ages since I've done anything with leaf identifying... (Yes, you're talking to a nature nut... I used to teach at a nature center for many summers....)

Thanks for your lovely comments.

Sewmom - I've bookmarked the links you gave me for future reference - thanks!

I think I've nearly got enough leaves now to make a head-dress or something. I might also attach some to a pin and make a brooch as well (have at least one friend who would like that!!) - now to figure out how to do acorns!!

I'm planning to work my way through a variety of leaves of the plants of the Celtic tree alphabet, the Ogham. First I need to decide who's version to go for, plus some of the plants will be a bit tricky (e.g. mistletoe, honeysuckle!!) but it will make an interesting challenge over the coming years!

I will keep you posted :)
