I have been trying to find a pattern for a tablecloth that my Grandmother made when she was a girl.

She hated this tablecloth because any time she was bad, she had to go work on making it! :worried
I know that she went to live with her Aunt here in the states when she was about 14 (she was from Canada) so the tablecloth had to be made prior to 1928.
I have been searching online until my eyes are bleary :( so I thought I would ask here to see if it rings a bell with anyone. If anyone can give me any leads I will be very greatful!

That is beautiful!
from the looks of it. It is done in motifs. From the center of the star to ouside circle. That last round you do the long part that joins later to make the empty center like cross center. If you have been crocheting a long time it would be very easy to figure out how its done and writing it down. If you cannot figure it out, have someone you know crochets a long time look at it.
As far as the pattern? as long as I have been crocheting I have not come across this pattern. I love this pattern, its beautiful! and I would love to know as well. I can see me making something with this motif.
Hope you find the pattern.

I don't recall seeing it before, but I had to comment. What a great piece and a great story! Dare I ask how big it is and how long it took your grandma to make? :lol

I don't know how long it took her to make it, but I do know that, although she was good at it, she HATED crocheting! :eek She said it drove her crazy to have to crochet! :loco Gee...I wonder why???
If I blocked it, it would measure about 45" x 55". I have it on an antique drop leaf table that was made by my 5-greats ago Grandfather and was my Grandmother's dining table when she was growing up. These are two of my most treasured family possesions. I consider myself to be very blessed to have these two wonderful things and I tease my kids that if there was a fire, I would save the table and tablecloth and let them fend for themselves!:lol
I may have to try to figure out on my own how the pattern goes. I don't think the motif will be all that hard, it's just that I don't have a lot of experience connecting motifs and so will have to do a little research on that type of technique.
I want to make up a panel in this motif to put across my diningroom window like a valance to really bring attention to the tablecloth.
If/when I find/figure out the pattern I will be sure to share it!:hook

How beautiful, I have a lot of old crochet books and patterns, I will scan through them and see if I can find anything. Hope so, because it is well worth the effort...

See if you can get some good close-up photos taken of it and then post the pics if you need some help in figuring out how to duplicate the pattern.
